Canon Ir105: Does it have to be CONNECTED TO A NETWORK?

    Hello,

I use a Canon ImageRUNNER 105 with IPRO Copy+ for imaging. For security reasons it is wished that the IR105 be COMPLETELY off the network and only hooked up to the computer to which it scans. I am guessing the scanner simply will not operate if it is taken off the network but some people have told me otherwise. Is there a way to get around network scan gear and just use a local connection (serial?) between the scanner and the computer.

Connect the 105 to the computer with a crossover cable.

Set up an IP address to comunicate with that one PC.

Scanning won't work with a serial connection.

If it's really an issue, you can install a second network card in the PC, with a totally different IP scheme than the rest of the network, and then use a crossover to the iR105.

That's the only way I ever set up iR110s (and up).

Another good idea if you want to spend money.

"Restrict IP Addresses" might be another way. Not to sure about it though.

Following these directions. This will permit you to block an IP address assigned to a particular computer. Select Additional Functions > System Settings > Network Settings > TCP/IP Settings > IP Address Range Settings > Setting/Browsing Range > Reject IP Address(es) > Apply Settings > On > Register > Select Single Address* > enter the IP Address > OK.

Another option is to permit only the IP Address(es) that are allowed to access RUI. Begin by selecting Additional Functions > System Settings > Network Settings > TCP/IP Settings > IP Address Range Settings > Setting/Browsing Range > Permit IP Address(es) > Apply Settings > On > Register > Select Single Address* > enter the IP Address > OK.
