    ImageRunner 1025IF Forward Incoming Faxes to Email

    I'm the IT guy for a small Construction firm (freelance) - I recently installed an ImageRunner 1025IF for them. Its on the network etc. but after a week or so of it pumping out useless faxes all day (from deli's / scam artists etc) we thought we would like to send all faxes via email to one of the assistants for review before printing.

    I've set up forwarding via the remote UI to the assistant's email but the forwarding fails. I know this is an SMTP or DNS problem but do not know where to begin. Can this not happen internally (ie. do I need to set up a third party email account for the ImageRunner to use) -- we are on a Small Business Server running SBS2003R2 -- the same box hosts our Exchange Server though I'm sure the IP's are different and the routing happens internally.)

    This is all a little over my head so any detailed help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Are you able to send email from the copier to the address you are using as the forwarding address?
    If not you need to check the email communication settings.

    Additional Functions-> System Settings-> Network Settings-> E-Mail/I-Fax Settings

    Or from RUI home page->Additional Functions->System Settings...
    You will need the smtp email server address, an email address (this is the "from" email) and a valid password if necessary.

    I'd suggest turning off anything with POP. Also, Not specifying any forwarding conditions will forward everything (which it sounds like this is what you want).

      Ok, I have tried everything I can think of for over a week now and still am not getting the faxes to forward. I set up a gmail acct for the ImageRunner to use because that seemed the most failsafe way to test and it still fails. I set up the gmail account info on the device exactly as it would be set up in an Outlook client (ie. smtp address, ports and username password) My fear is that since the device resides on the internal network, it is not able to access the internet. If I were to put it on the router that serves only the internet it would not be available as a shared printer. The PC's that use the internal router obviously connect to the internet so I'm not sure where I am going wrong.

      The forwarding attempts to occur (as noted in the activity log) so I know that my forwarding rule is working, the address is correct and the rule is turned on etc. I've entered various different DNS server info both internally and externally -- Not sure what I should attempt next.

      My one fear is that all of the permutations of things that I have tried may be in vain since most instructions seem to indicate I should reboot the device after each change. How does one go about rebooting? I've been making all of the changes remotely and sending test faxes from my office but if I have not been rebooting have I been wasting my time?

        Canon is different in that none of the settings you make will take effect until you reboot, which to my knowledge can't be done remotely.

        Reboot= Turn OFF/ON with main power switch on the right rear side, not the button on the control panel.

          Thank you very much. I'll be over at the office tomorrow so I'll try out my settings after a reboot then.
