scan to network pc on vista

Hi all just wondering how to share a folder properly to allow scan to network using smb on vista. I have set up networking scanning on xp with no problems but with vista there is always a problem. I know all the passwords are correct but I think I am not sharing the destination folder correctly.

    Thanks

Can you give anymore information Mr spock, what way should they be set. I know with XP it's just a matter of authorising read write for the shared folder. As I say I haven't been able to scan to vista yet so I clearly don't know how to share the folder correctly lol.

if there's third party software, check advanced setting within windows firewall, make sure there's exception for the executable.

You need user name and password when the permission is set specifically. No, if permission is for "everyone".

Iman, I would personally recommend forgetting SMB with Vista & especially Windows 7, use FTP & programme such as Filezilla. So much easier.

right click on the folder>properties>sharing>advanced options. also, look for a security tab, it has to give the full read/write permissions.

The..what's that called...in the same place as "network discovery." There's a option there crucial for online sharing, it has to be on.

The following is how you would SMB for a KM, falcon 3 and onward. For other manufacturers, i think a little reading is required on your part.

                        computer name: Alittlepiggy
                        folder path: c:\scans
                        permission: Everyone, full control.
network sharing "on" if on Vista.

The following is what you would put in in KM Command Center.

                        host name: alittlepiggy
                        path: scans
                        authenticationblank, since its for everyone)

                        c:\computer\department\users\scans

If your destination is buried in multiple folders, maker sure each folder is shared and has the same permission granted.

I'd persuade clients to move folders to roots and create shortcut to desktop.
