scan to file (smb) + linux problem

    machine: iR3300i
workstations: windows xp & windows 7
    server: CentOS 5.4

problem: #801 on smb(scan to file) to server
hi guys, not a common problem but hoping somebody might give light

customer is using iR3300i and are usually using it to scan files into
the server ( CentOS 5.4 ) shared under SMB to the whole network.
all was working fine until the HDD died (e602)
    service technician replaced the HDD

the 3300i can send (scan to file) documents to all the workstations except to the server (#801)
but all the workstations, can read/write files into server

    machine -
login details used is correct (username & password), but prompts,
check login details whenever I browse for the server drive.

    workstations -
used the same username & password and can access the server drive...

#801 [SMB] Sending to a shared folder
    Cause
-The destination is full or out of available free space to write to.
-The user account does not have proper privileges or enough
disk space quota available for this user account to write to this
    destination.
-The SMB client setting is not turned ON or not properly
    configured on the copier/machine.
-The software FIREWALL on that destination computer might be
turned ON or not properly configured to permit this traffic.
-Check and verify that the destination has enough available
    free disk space.

    Remedy
-Check and verify that the user account does have proper access
and disk quota available for writing files to this location.
-Check and verify that the SMB client protocol is turn ON and
that the SMB client is properly configured on the copier/machine.
-Check and verify that there are no software firewalls running on
the destination computer and if so make sure that the firewall
application is properly configured to permit this traffic .

any suggestions what might be blocking the 3300i from accessing the server drive?

Re: scan to file (smb) + linux problem

    Hello,

I am having a similar problem getting an iR3300i to scan to Win 7 32/64-bit SMB folders. I have checked, and double-checked, all the settings, permissions, etc.. and have not been able to get this to work. Here is an example of what an address destination looks like in Remote UI.

    Protocol: Windows (SMB)
Host Name: \\JoeHoats-PC (I've also tried the PC's IP address)
File Path: Scans (I've also tried \Scans)
User: Scanner (I created a local user with admin right and permissions to the "Scans" folder)
    Password: Canon

I've been in this industry for several years and rarely have this much trouble setting up scanning. Are Windows 7 and 8 compatible with this Canon model? I realize this is a much older system, but I've heard it's possible.

Could you please share how you were able to make this work?

    Thanks,

    IDeLaTorre

sgcopiertech, SMB error #801 means "You are sending a file to a destination to which you have no write permission." Check with IT and have them make certain that the user name and password you are using has write permission to the folder.

idelatorre, Depends on how old the image runner is and what firmware is installed. Also Windows 7 introduced the requirement that the user name used must have a password. Try updating network firmware.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I obtain the network firmware? I am not a Canon technician. I am a network engineer, but have experience configuring MFPs after working with a couple of manufacturers.

run the command testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf then press enter to see a breakdown of the permissions for each share on the server. If it's a workstation share, what function does the server have?
