Canon Image Runner 3300, combination copier, fax, and scanner with eCopy ShareScan OP

I love this machine, but, every time I turn around, there is a problem with the scanner or the printer, i.e., the error code: Network Processing Timed Out. Check the scanner and network status. The scanner driver will be closed. Scanner driver initialization problem. I work in a sole-proprietor law office, and there are approximately 6 people or work stations on the network that use this combination machine. Last week everyone but me was able to print to the machine. Yesterday, I spent the entire day trying to figure out what the problem was. By the end of the day, I finally was able to print but then no one else could print.

Today, no one can print, and the "Network Processing Timed Out" . . . message came up on the scanner. Needless to say this is a drastic situation for us, and we own the machine now but have a maintenance contract with Ikon, from whom we purchased the machine. Every time I have to call in or do an online request for servicing for these problems, the technician comments that this is the only business in Tulsa that has these problems with this machine. Our firm has become a big laugh around Ikon, and they hate to respond but will eventually. I am so far behind on my work because of these problems that I am beside myself. Even the IT guy is frustrated and says that this is such a proprietary software that even he can't figure it out, and the guy is a total genius, literally!

The other message that came up today is: "Cannot create shell notification Icon." I have no idea what that is about.

Any suggestions or resolutions from others who have had this problem would be so appreciated.

Well, first off you have my sympathy. I left Ikon because of the lack of support. Just to be sure we are talking about the right ecopy, that's the touchscreen and computer sitting next to the copier right?
Can't say as there were many problems with those once they were up and running, but off the top of my head have the tech check or replace the cables going from the 3300 base to its scanner. Updating the copier system software wouldn't hurt either.

I suspect most of your problems are with the sharescan station though. It sounds like a reinstalling the software on the sharescan station would fix most of your issues. It could have a virus or corrupt drivers etc.. they mostly ran Win NT or if you're lucky it could have XP. Find out if you still have all the CD's and license keys that came with it.
It was a gray area whose responsibility the workstation was but usually the customer put on antivirus and the rest was taken care of by the tech. Since Ikon isn't being much help and it sounds like your IT guy knows his stuff, maybe this will help. Let him know there really isn't any proprietary marrying the copier to the workstation. Its just a regular workstation running windows but what makes it special is the touchscreen drivers and the sharescan software run from the startup folder. Just be sure to have the license for the ecopy sharescan software and the touchscreen drivers and ask him to reload that workstation. GL!!

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate your response. In fact, it has been necessary to reload that software at least twice before this. As a result, we seem to no longer have the capability of using the touch screen, and when I mention that to IKON, I am always told that they don't know what to do. It's like they really don't want to waste too much time on us.

Well I'll just refrain from commenting about Ikon. They should've known how to get the touchpanel going at least.

There is a setup program on the ShareScan CD for the Universal Pointing Device Driver (UPDD) on the ShareScan CD. Explore the Cd or just let the autorun go and click drivers and Explore Touchscreen Drivers. Just walk through the setup but you may need to select the right touchpanel model (look for a label on the back of the touchscreen). That should get the touchpanel going.

When they reloaded the system did they setup the scanning device correctly? If they didn't it will scan the entire network for available scanners for every job.

Open the "Select Devices" dialog box and make sure to enable "From Registered Devices" and "Use this Device for Future Session"

Just curious what version of Windows is on your ShareScan station?
