Strange spooler behaviour in remote XP computer...

    Hi Everyone,

My work has a main office in Victoria (Australia) and a regional office in Queensland. The two offices are separated by about 1700 kilometers, and they are connected by VPN. Often the Victorian office sends print jobs to the regional Queensland office.

In the Queensland office we have an XP computer connected to a Kyocera (FS-2000) printer, and lately we have been seeing some strange entries in the Windows Print Spooler:

Even though you may conclude that nothing will print with the spooler in this condition surprisingly print jobs still get through to the printer, it is as if they skips past the jobs that are "stuck"!

Even more confusing we are often seeing "N/A" for the number of pages on some spooled print jobs:

Once again you might assume that no print jobs will be able to get through with the spooler in this condition, however this is not always the case! However sometimes it is!!!

Usually rebooting the computer (in Queensland) helps, but sometimes we also have to reboot the Server in Victoria.

If anybody has any suggestions on how to resolve this, or what might be the cause of this it will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Davo

P.S.: Here is a video showing the strange behaviour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJfXB...ature=youtu.be

I have seen this on Sharp machines a few times. Go into the services portion and stop the print spooler service on the server. Using command prompt to stop it never worked for me. I always had to turn it off in the services section.

Failing to plan is planning to fail!!!

Here is a link showing some print jobs "jumping past" other stuck jobs!

Try turning off all Bi-Directional support within the driver, especially the one in the Ports tab.

You also might want to look at upgrading your driver. I know that the FS-1010 and FS-2000 are extremely similar, but change your driver or add another print queue and see if that helps (this is an assumption seeing as the windows showing the print jobs all say FS-1010).
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

          Hello TheOwl,

I have disabled "Bi-Directional Support" as per your suggestion. However I was not able to make any changes to the actual port settings because whenever I click on "Configure Port" I am greeted by the message "An error occurred during port configuration. This operation is not supported", however I suspect that the error is being presented because the printer is connected by USB.

Thanks for your assistance here, I am interested to see how printing goes now that I have made the change.

          Have a great Christmas

          Cheers

          Davo

You are getting the error messages because there are print jobs in the queue. If you delete all the print jobs and then change the port settings, everything should then work.

              Hi TheOwl,

I have deleted the stuck print jobs, rebooted the client computer, and then attempted to configure the port - with the same error message result. I have also checked another entirely different computer which is using a USB printer, and I got the same result so I am thinking that this is definitely a USB issue.

              Kind Regards,
