Ricoh Aficio 1035 drops network connectivity intermittently

We have setup a new file server in one of our offices - HP Proliant running MS Server 2008 R2. The old file server died a horrible death. The new server is a domain controller and runs DHCP for delivering IP addresses to PCs. The Ricoh printer (statis IP address) previously worked fine with the old server which has the typcial print queue setup on it. This is the same configuration we use in all our other offices with our Fuji Xerox printers - no issues.

We have observed that the Ricoh printer appears to drop off the network from time to time losing IP connectivity (pings to it don't get a reply) which can be corrected by a) restarting the copier. b) unplugging the network cable and plugging it back in (this has worked numerous times this week but has also failed a number of times. c) none of the above (it just comes back on its own as it has done twice today).

The Ricoh has a static IP address. The Netbui and Apple talk protocols have been disabled on the printer, only TCP/IP. The printer and the server are in different switches but we tried placing them in the same switch and it made no difference. We have also removed the printing environment from the new server to see if that makes any difference and it does not. When direct printing from a PC to the Ricoh printer (over the network but with no server in the middle) is setup, the printing similarly only works intermittently (when the printer happens to still be connected to the network).

This has been going on for a week now and is driving us nutts, not to mention the staff in the office who need to use the printer!

Are you using scanning functions for the 1035?

Ricoh made a special firmware for Win 7/SBS2008. The original firmware doesn't support NTLMv2 or samba 3.0.23 or newer. Even in the old days when win2000 was the newest OS some Ricohs dropped off the network and eventually a firmware update came out that fixed it.

The 1035 is waaaaaaaaayyy too old for the firmware updates for scanning, especially as this model doesn't support Samba anyway. More than likely, you may have a dying network card. These at least were removable in these old models so it should be easy to get one, even from an old machine.
