Scan through a FireWall or Anti Virus software

I recently installed a new copier, scanning via SMB. Although I thought that I did everything correctly the copier would not successfully scan to Folder. In the end, I discovered by trial and error that the scans were being blocked by a trial version of McAfee software installed on a new laptop.

The customer plans to migrate to Zone Alarm on all of its PCs.

Can anyone refer me to the procedure by which I can configure both McAfee and Zone Alarm to allow scans to pass through the firewall.

    Thanks,

I am unfamiliar with those programs so details I cannot give, but from the scanning white pages by Ricoh:
Firewalls may be blocking the ports used by Scan to Folder. Check any firewalls on the PC to see if the OS or third party software is blocking the following ports:
    - 137 nbname TCP/UDP NetBEUI over TCP/IP name service
    - 138 nbdgram UDP NetBEUI over TCP/IP (NB datagram)
    - 139 nbsess TCP NetBEUI over TCP/IP (NB session)
Also, check with the network administrator. Routers may be setup to block these ports on the customer’s network.

edit: Woops, been browsing the Ricoh forum for too long, thought we were still talking about them.
The port might be different, but you should be able to change to trusted/unblock the application/port that is needed for your model scanner.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

SMB uses TCP port 445 regardless of the device

Have a little read through this thread. I know its Konica Minolta based, but it should give you an understanding of the ports used for SMB.

Now, McAfee usually uses trusts across the network and all that is really required is for you to add the IP address of the copier to the trusted network which will then allow SMB from the copier. Also from memory, Zone Alarm uses a similar principle, but much easier to find exactly where to add the exception.

If ever I come up against some Anti-Virus software, I normally just Google the proceedure to adding an exception as the proceedure changes for different versions.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
