hey guys, i am having some problems getting a simple scan to network folder going on a Sharp mx-2610N,let me first explain how this is working, the cleint has 2 MFPS hooked up through a hub on one MAC, i got printing going, but i need a guide to show me how to setup a scan to network folder or desktop, when setting up in address book i think it was scan to folder asking me for a port number , i have no idea what port number there are speaking about, also when i tried to scan its telling me selected "servers not found" i am not really familiar with macs, so i need a step by step guide if possible, thanks again guys.

Re: scan to Network folder/Desktop Mac osx
what version macs?
10.7 Lion i heard has buggy smb protocols, not sure if updates have fixced it but there is a easy ftp enable via terminal. I got it working today with no hassles through lion. If so i can send a link or copy to you when i get into work tomoorow. -
Re: scan to Network folder/Desktop Mac osx
Also, SMB port it either 139 (which i think is what the mac might use) or 445 - both SMB
or FTP which will be 21
When you share a folder on the mac, depending on what version you have, I think leopard you have a choice by either ftp or smb (windows sharing) through the "sharing" options.Comment

Konica Minolta Apple Mac Scanning Guide V1 0.pdf
I know this is for a Konica Minolta, but it will show you how to setup the Mac.
Redarmy is right about 10.7 with SMB because Apple change the SMB version which is no longer compatible with most devices. Also, in 10.7, FTP support has been dropped with a new protocol taking its place called WebDav.
You can download 3rd party apps for FTP on 10.7, so don't let that stop you.
If you don't have 10.7, then everything should be relatively easy. Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.Comment

Re: scan to Network folder/Desktop Mac osx
I have used this app a few times dose all the FTP commands for you and you can start and stop the app
Download Lion FTPD Enable for Mac - Enable and disable ftpd on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. MacUpdate.com
This app will make the root dir the users home drive.
If you do have Mac 10.7 they dropped support for SAMBA (Needed for SMB) and replaced it with SAMBA X (their own version) i know for us KM guys our machines needed a firmware update before we could get this working.
Best of luckComment

Re: scan to Network folder/Desktop Mac osx
Thank you, folks.
Thanks to your help I managed it and finally I found the way to scan directly to my folder (/public/Scans): "FTPD" from now on is my way to make FTP-traffic possible (KMBizhub220/Develop ineo+220) onto my wife's and my own Mac.
At first I couldn't believe. I got used to the idea that it were impossible.
But now: "Mission accomplished!"

take a look at my How-To library and the "mac osx scanning setup"
they did away with FTP sharing on the newest OSX, so the only option now is email scanning. the macs can be told via the "terminal" application to activate FTP, but it has to be done manually each time the computer it started up.
I hope your mac is 10.6 or older, then this setup procedure will work fine.
