I've verified that our Kyorcera 255 isn't the problem but this one was just so mind boggling I just have to get some opinions on it. The machine was losing it's network connection off and on, the cabling tested good and the jack and switch had been swapped out, service manager sent me out to change the print board which I did. Finished that all up and plugged it in to no avail. Went back this morning with my laptop and crossover cable and connected to the command center no problems. Plugged my laptop into the jack the machine was on and the machine into a jack in the next office and it works like a champ. Swap the cables from my laptop to the machine and vice versa and I get nothing. Any ideas or opinions on this one? It's no longer my problem but I'm always a curious one to challenging problems.

Re: Interesting network issue
I can think of a few things but I've seen things like this when there is an IP conflict. Try pinging the machine IP with the machine not connected and see if the address is still being used. Alternatively, change the IP of the machine to an IP known to be available and see if the symptoms change. -

Re: Interesting network issue
I have had a similar issue with a customers network. Turned out that there were only 3 pair (6 wires) connected within the wall jack. Took jack out of the wall. Put all 8 wires into the plug, and walla. Haven't been back yet and the was over a year ago.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!Comment

Re: Interesting network issue
What sort of switch are they running?
I have seen some funny configurations with CISCO switches whereby the will temporarily disable the port for certain reasons. Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.Comment

Re: Interesting network issue
I'm not certain what the switch is, that isn't my AO, but I chatted with one of the guys from the IT company and they say they resolved it but he wasn't sure what exactly the tech did. When I chat with them again for another customer issue I'll ask and found out what they did."In a cruel and evil world, being cynical can allow you to get some entertainment out of it."

Re: Interesting network issue
I've had it a few times when switches start to fail or are having issues with speed negotiation, that the copier random drops it's connection. It's hard to say to them that the switch may have issues when they aren't have issues with pc's and other network device, so I just turn the onboard nic on the copier to a default speed 10 or 100 mbps and turn off auto-negotiation. Might be something to look at. Even if you turn it to 10 mbps they probably won't even notice the speed difference.Comment
