Mac os X scan to smb

I am having trouble setting up scan to smb on a customer's network. They are running both os X 10.4 and 10.5 on their network (100% mac environment) The copier is a Konica bizhub C450 with an attached IC-402 print controller. Does anyone know what needs to be done, such as settings, on the mac workstation to prepare it for receiving scans via smb? All the folder permissions are set for read & write to everyone, so I don't think the folder permissions are the issue. The file path looks correct. I know there is something else I must be missing. Any suggests or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you scanning to a host name or IP in the file path?

      Turn on Windows Sharing

      1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
      2. From the View menu, choose Sharing. The Bonjour (formerly "Rendezvous") Name field will be used for the Mac OS X SMB host name. This is the name that appears in the Windows Network Neighborhood.

For versions 10.2 and 10.2.1 only: If a DNS reverse lookup entry exists for your computer, the DNS name will be used instead of the one entered here.
      3. Click the checkbox for Windows Sharing (located in the Service column). Network preferences says, "Windows Sharing On".
      4. For version 10.4 only: As indicated by the yellow prompts, you must click the Enable Accounts button and complete the resulting dialog.

If Windows Sharing service does not stay on, make sure you have a reliable network connection.

Thanks for the replies, I found out what the problem was. Even though "Windows file sharing" was checked, I had to go into the advanced options for windows file sharing and select SMB which wasn't check. After that, scans are going through.

This is only for the new 10.5, I forgot to tell you that. I had the same issue the first time i did it I enabled it but the path was using AFP and it had a crazy path so that is how i got in and saw the three options FTP, SMB and AFP.

Fausto that is correct: in leopard choose apple menu\system preferences\sharing\check=file sharing then options and there is AFP;FTP;SMB.

IMind thank you very much for all the info.
I don't know to much about Mac just the basic you know. I get the jobs done with the copiers.

Windows that is different. I am confortable with it

I see that you got this to work Mungoose. I was wondering if you could help me with a similar problem

I have a Mac OSX 10.5 machine that i'm trying to scan via SMB from a Canon iR1023. With all other Canon's I am able to browse OUT from the machine and set the address that way, but with this one I have to do it through the remote user interface.

Here it asks for the following information:

                  Host:
                  File Path:
                  User:
                  Pass:

User and Pass I have set but I'm not sure what to use for Syntax in the Host and File Path. If this were a Windows environment it would look like this:

                  Host: \\host\share
                  File: \path\to\folder

I'm using the computers IP to rule out any DNS issues or conflict with the computer name resolution. and the share is the folder i want to scan to. Again, the Windows Environment would look like this:

                  Host: \\10.1.10.130\scans
                  File: (empty)

What does the MAC want to see?
                  Thanks
                  Keith

I haven't set up a scan to smb on a canon, but I believe it should be similiar. It's interesting that canon adds the share folder with the host. Other machines have the ip address or host name of the workstation inputted there. And then the should be either the unc path, or just the share folder name. Make sure the share permissions are set correctly and that smb is on on the mac. Can you browse to that folder on the mac from a PC workstation?

Well i figured it out and thought I would post my findings here. Thanks for your assistance:

How to setup SMB Scanning from ir1023if to MAC

                      1. Create Scans folder on client MAC (for this example i'm using a folder called "scans" and placing it on the desktop

                      2. Share the folder and allow all users Read/Write Access - System Prefs>Sharing

                      3. Enable SMB (Windows Sharing) on your Mac - Depending on the MAC OSX Version, this is usually found in System Prefs>Sharing

                      4. Turn on "SMB Client" on the ir1023 - Go to Device Tab>Network> click on Edit and scroll down until you see the SMB section and turn the SMB Client to "ON"

                      5. Create the Scan Address: (Using my example above) - I created this as a Favorite Button under M1

host: \\hostname or ip\user home directory
                      file: \\desktop\scans
                      user: user
                      pass: pass

                      6. DISABLE THE MAC FIREWALL!!!! - This is bolded and exclaimated because it took me 3 hours to figure out WHY the heck this wasnt working. I had EVERYTHING else right except for this tiny little thing. Here's how to do it in Mac OSX 10.5

Open System Preferences. With that window open, go up to the top menu and select View > Security. In the Security Dialogue box that pops up, go to Firewall and select "Allow All Access". Mine was set to the one below that and it did not work. Built-In Firewalls are dumb. You could just add the Canon's IP address into the allowed list but I wasnt taking any chances after messing with this for 3 hours.

I think I got everything. Just go to the Canon and select "Send" and then press your favorites Button

So, here's my example using what i used:

                      host: \\10.1.10.110\keith
                      File: \desktop\scans
                      user: keith
                      pass: password

                      voila!
