Scan to mac os x lion: Has anyone gotten smbup to work???

With the upgrade to max os x lion, smb has been done away with. smbup reinstalls it. I am checking to see if anyone has installed it and gotten it to work. I think it would be easier to fix the mac than try to fix the copiers with firmware update. Thats just me... I will check back later

I believe that manufacturers are just going to release firmware updates for current equipment which is compatible with OSX 10.7 and above.

OSX 10.7 hasn't exactly done away with SMB, but Apple has created their own version of SMB which the copiers can't talk with correctly. That is why a simple firmware update will most likely fix the machines as manufacturers will just write compatibility into their SMB software for OSX 10.7.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Fought this issue for while on a Sharp MX-2610. The customer was working on it as well and ended up using software to fix the problem. Works great so far, he was having some other issues as well running a mac server in a windows environment. I tried a freeware called SMBup that I read had worked for other people. I never could get it to work but could be because I was running OSX in VMware.

We have fought this issue at several locations. Usually just resort to email. (Save the attachment, run OCR if needed.) FTP works if the customer is willing to install it, or scan to a spare PC/NFS, and share.

Firmware fixes are promised, but yet to be delivered.

I had that problem to with a customer, I was able to make SMB work but when I tried accessing it from an XP machine it took a long time, and my guess is that when the copier tried to send the file it timed out.

My solution was to use FTP, here is a link on how to enable it:
Enable FTP Server in Mac OS X Lion | ITworld

After that, log in from the console: ftp 127.0.0.1
Use the main user for log in credentials.
Use the command 'mkdir scanfolder' to create a new directory name 'scanfolder', then use finder to know where it the folder is located.

          I hope this helps.
