Re: SMB to Mac
If you are having problems with network name resolutions, double check that you have entered all your network details correctly. Specifically, the DNS, gateway, etc, addresses. If all else fails you can (or get the customers IT department) to set up IP reservations for the devices against their MAC addresses. -
Re: SMB to Mac
In the network settings of the Macs, you can add a Host name for each interface, sometimes this doesn't give you the same name as the host name set in System Preferences so it can be helpful to double check. Also make sure that the Macs are set to allow file sharing through their firewall. If they're running 10.7+ then you may need to wait for firmware updates as Apple has decided to use their own proprietary version of SMB which not all MFPs are able to communicate with properly.
Apple just likes being difficult any way they possibly can.Comment

Re: SMB to Mac
As what rthonpm said, the device name can differ to the name given to it by the base Linux system.
Going into System Preferences > Sharing should give you the host name for the share. The other thing that you can try is put ".local" at the end of the host name. Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.Comment

Re: SMB to Mac
I have noticed that through all the MFPs I've setup with Macs, that the MFP wont resolve the Mac's hostname, on even the most stable of networks, (small office, good equipment, proper cabling) properly configured network settings on the MFP seem to count for nothing..
Setup DHCP reservation by first obtaining the Mac's layer 2 address (MAC address) by going System Preferences>Network> Airport or Built-in Ethernet (depending on the access method here) click Advanced..
Airport ID= wifi card MAC address
Ethernet ID= NIC MAC address
Next part depends if you have the router password or not, and the capability of that device.. typically, you'll just bind an IP in the reservation list to a MAC address..
My company, we sell SOHO routers and network equipment as an available option to the customer...
If they're not content with just scan to email, I let them know as best I can if there's this hitch with scan to folder..Comment
