I had a Toshiba Satellite A125 for four years. I had that thing apart more times then I care to remember. What are you trying to service?

my gf cracked the LCD on her toshiba satelite laptop last week...she ordered one and ask me to install it cuz I told her not to waste her money taking it to a repair shop who would charge her more than what the thing was worth...it came in last nite...I was too lazy and tipsy to deal with it....so she did it on her own with minimal supervision from me....she has little to no technical ability....well needless to say she had the thing up in running in less than 20 minutes...

Hey Mojo. First let me say, I am presently going to school for networking/computers, but I have learned a lot from being in the copier biz. I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5843 that I need to get down to the mother board. The problem I'm having is as follows:

With the adapter plugged in, the blue lights (power cord and battery) are blue, meaning I have power. Unplug the adapter and both go out. I cannot boot with or without adapter plugged in. If the adapter is plugged in and I turn it on, the power light (similar icon as the copier, circle with line in it) comes on for about 5-10 seconds, the hard drive light flickers and then the power light goes out. I tried it with only one stick of ram, then with the other. Tried with the battery removed and the with the hard drive removed.

So, I thought I would dig in and see what i could find. Have never disassembled a laptop. Desktops/towers, no problem.

Laptops aren't really much different than a desktop...just more compact...I'm sure just a few screws on the bottom and remove the battery and the bottom cover comes right off and you pretty much got everything right there....

Not sure if the A200 is similar enough, but try this one out: Toshiba Notebook PC Satellite A200 Maintenance Manual is available right now. fo

This website actually has a pretty good selection of manuals. I know it is downright sacrilegious to mention any other manual sites around here...but this one is pretty good. and free.

The tighter the package, the finer the touch.

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Have you tried it with the battery removed, keyboard and mouse unplugged? Use a volt meter and see what power the adapter is putting out. In my experience, you are lucky to get 2 years from a laptop dongle. Seems about the same lifespan as a wireless router too....lol.
