    How was it a pain?
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Just curious...I've seen this suggestion posted on a few different occasions.
I've tried it with no success.
Has anyone actually had luck with this, in lieu of a firmware update - specifically with Ricoh?

I can only guess that share encryption is turned on by default or SMB is forced at a level too high; but as I do no have a copy of W8/2012 I cannot test these.

A quick scan through Google shows some users having success with different brands by creating local user accounts.

(Does Ricoh OS use SMBv1 or v2?)
Backwards compatible unless the system administrator has switched off the backward compatiblity.

The key words in ruben's post are "should be". Microsoft originally intended it to be fully backward compatible, but then included a required netbios security feature that was not compatible to most SMB scanning MFPs. There is a registry edit that would turned off the security feature. MFP manufacturers found it easier to modify network firmware to add support for the feature.

I had previously tried with/without passwords, etc., etc., as asked by 'drolfe' above. It would not work without firmware update
Do you think it would work on an MP C3500 and if so can you send me links or attach firmware files to norm@copiersplusinc.com Thank you.

If you are an authorized Ricoh technician, you can login to TSRC or rfg-esource and download the firmware. If you are an end user, contact your local Ricoh/Savin/Lanier dealer or branch and have a technician come out and update the firmware. The other option is to email Paul@JustManuals.com and ask for a price.

You cannot use certain third-party devices to send a document to a shared folder in Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2 Works perfect almost on all ricoh machines imo not only ricoh. You dont need special firmware

I agree - So far I've had 99% success with Ricoh devices when updating the firmware for SMB scanning. Politically, taking care of it on the Ricoh works out better than telling the customer to apply a patch to the server or workstation. In matters regarding scanning, it's almost always a copier issue.

Not blowing off the MS Tech Notes Arahael - If they work, great.

I've used FileZilla Server and scanned to FTP in some cases where it was another other unknown issue that prevents SMB scanning from going through.

I did update for all firmware, but I don't have custom firmware for MP C3500/4500. I got custom firmware on our forum from @slimslob (here: http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ri...ndows-8-a.html) for MP C2000/2500/3000 and it works. I know what to do, but I need this "FIRMWARE SPECIAL/CUSTOM".
                            Best Regards to all.
