    colorqube 8900x smb workflow scanning

    Ok,
Got a few of these to install im just having an issue setting up workflow sanning (smb), If I use the ip address of the server/comp with user credentials It goes through fine. but as soon as I switch to Host Name(prefer as some comps will be dhcp), it fails. My DNS is set, I can scan to email just fine using a hostname for smtp server. But as far as SMB goes. Im failing everytime. Any ideas?

error i get is login failure. Check user password, and/or setups. But the same credentials worked using the just the ip.

What's the OS of the destination machine? There have been a lot of issues with NTLMv2 and the newer versions of SMB included in Windows 7 and Windows 8 that have caused issues. Make sure you've got the latest firmware for the machine.

      thanks for the reply.

Its the latest firmware on the machine. I've tried and failed using win7, server 2003, and win xp. All fail when it comes scanning to hostname, but ip is working fine.

Sounds like a DNS setting. Check the settings and compare to the workstations'.

Im just using the router DNS (192.168.1.1), which works fine on my ricoh's and other xerox's i have smb scanning on the network. For an smtp server i use mail.bigpond.com which if i had a dns issue I would of thought that would fail aswell, as it doesn't ?

I didn't see where you were using the SMTP server so your DNS should be fine. With the router giving you DNS and DHCP, I'm going to guess this is a workgroup network and not a domain. Is the machine set to the same workgroup as the computers? Have you tried using the hostname\user format for authentication when specifying the host?

If this is a domain, then you may want to make sure that DNS isn't being provided by the Server 2003 host. Active Directory usually works best when the domain controller is providing local DNS and DHCP, or if those are coming from another Windows server. SMTP may work since the DNS query would be sent out to the internet anyway as opposed to being resolved locally.

thanks for your help. Been trying those things but no success.

been talking to Xerox Australia tech support. All there machines worked fine but we noticed they were running an older firmware version. They found a machine in stock with the same newer version of firmware as ours. BINGO, they are failing to scan to smb.... So it looks like firmware thats been installed for the new machines is faulty. sadly we can't downgrade the firmware, so we will have to wait till xerox update firmware
