    mp6000

Customer with a Ricoh mp6000 about 10 workstations connected.most of the time all can print.sometimes only one can print everyone else the printer says offline although you can ping it.their network guy says their is no problem with their network. I am leaning towards nic card or firmware. Any ideas??

Don't rely on ping, it only proves that something is on that IP.

Are they printing through a server or direct? Do they have DHCP on or static IPs?

Rule out the basics first, make sure the device is on DHCP and you can print using its hostname.

To make sure the ping is actually pinging the machine, disconnect the network cable from the machine and try pinging it again.
There's a low probability this will help, but a couple of times DHCP has taken over the machine's network address for me, and this proves the point one way or another.
Also, to hedge your bets, you might try posting your query here:

I had an HP LJ 2050dn which had a similar problem like the one you are facing. It could intermittently drop the network connectivity, losing its IP address. The sysadmin said it was not a network problem; I installed latest driver and firmware i downloaded from hp website. The problem seem to have gone away, at least for now.

I agree with everyone previous. Don't overlook the simple solution. Make sure that the 6000 has a static ip and that there is not another device with the same ip. Reinstall the driver or use a different driver from the workstations ; especially if the drivers are on a server. Have had issues printing from servers before that were fixed by putting drivers on the workstations. Seldom have ever had a problem with the Nic card and have never had a printing issue that firmware fixed.

If the DHCP-server has the IP-adres of the MP6000 in its' lease list, then the DHCP-server can assign that IP-adress to a PC. Then there are two identical IP-adresses on the same subnet and that can cause weird problems.

If you connect a laptop directly to the machine and you can access the machine, the NIC should be ok.
