Unable to scan to SMB from Ricoh MP 2550

    Good Day All,

I have a Ricoh MP 2550 that we obtained via a lease agreement from a local supplier; they basically supply all the copiers for our organization (Hospital). The controller board was recently changed as the unit was having issues communicating with our network. Now the unit is partially up and running, meaning that we can print to it as we have used Print Management to deploy the unit via Group Policy, but the scan to folder function that was present before no longer works. I have checked the network settings via the unit's webpage and also from the control panel on the copier itself and have found no problems whatsoever. I can ping devices from the copier and the copier is also seen when pinged (hope I am making sense), but I am unable to get it to access the file server's resources. I went so far as to delete the reservation made for it in DHCP and recreated same (We give all our printers/copiers static IPs) and checked that the mac address in the Allow section is correct. I have removed all of the profiles from the copier's address book and re-created one from scratch (I did this from the copier itself), but when I get to where I need to enter the credentials to it to access to the server, I keep getting an 'Authentication Failed' error. I have tried Domain\Username and also just the username only with the password and am still unable to access the server. It sees the network and various servers, but refuses to accept the credentials to allow access to the server. Can anyone please shed some light on this? I was in the process of doing a full reset of the server when I chanced upon this site and decided to see if you all could assist.

Please help. I hope I made sense.

    Thanks in advance.

What OS is the server running? Make sure the folder credentials are set correctly, and allow SMB through any firewall/virus/security suite they have. Triple check that the username and passwords are correct, recreate them if need be. Alternatively, I would suggest using FTP scanning instead; cross-compatiable and easy to set up.

Since you are using fixed IP addresses, checked to see if the domain name is entered in the interface settings. Server 2008R2 and server 2012 will not accept smtp authenication from any device than is not part of the domain. When you use DHCP, the domain name is obtained from the DHCP server. When I am setting up a new machine, I start with DHCP, then I print the interface settings to get things such as domain name, gateway, and DNS. I then configure for fixed IP using the domain information from the DHCP. Also the first DNS must be the primary domain DNS. The only other thing would be misspelling the name or password or having the wrong name or password.

It sounds like the controller may be using an older firmware version that doesn't allow for negotiated NTLMv2 connections (SMBv2). This is especially important for Server 2008 domain. Have the local service company come out and confirm that all of the firmware on the system is up to date. Just because the board is new doesn't mean it hasn't been sitting in a warehouse for awhile.

One thing I ran into yesterday. I was setting up scan to SMB. Authenication was fine. Connection test was fine. Tried to scan and the data light flashed and then it showed "processing" at the bottom of the screen. Tried again and both sent. Tried again and showed "processing". Checked all the interface settings and found that the SMB name for the MFP was blank. Entered the serial number as the name and it scanned every time. Simple things are easy to overlook.

Good Afternoon All,I tried the suggestions, but none of them have yielded any benefit. As per rthonpm's suggestion, I have engaged the supplier to come and perform the firmware upgrade. Let's hope it works. I'll keep you all posted as things progress. Thanks for all the assistance thus far guys.

Re: Unable to scan to SMB from Ricoh MP 2550

Good Day all,Just giving an update... the technician came out and upgraded the firmware, but then we realized something else was wrong. The copier was now displaying the incorrect date and time after he rebooted it. We did not notice it initially, but while I was attempting to browse to our server I noticed that one minute everything was displayed (i.e. entire domain and list of available servers, machines, etc.) then the next I would see a blank list when I entered the domain again. It was then we noticed the date and time were incorrect. He set it to the correct date and time, made a few more changes and then we decided to do another reboot and see if it would keep. Sure enough, after the reboot, it again lost the date and time. He has since ordered some replacement parts to address the issue and is scheduled to come today to install them. I really hope that this works to solve the issue. I just want to say thanks again for all the assistance you guys have provided; you were indeed helpful.

The date/time issue could be part of the problem, especially in an AD scenario where kerberos only allows you about a five minute difference in time.

                      Good Morning again all,

I just wanted to say thanks again for all the assistance and tips provided. Unfortunately, even after changing the parts and some other tinkering, we were still unable to resolve the smb issue. It was lucky for us that we were due for an upgrade, so we've since received a spanking new MP C4503 and have swapped out all our other machines simultaneously as well, so we've got a brand new fleet of copiers. I've had no issues with these thus far, just have to continously caution the users as they are the ones that cause problems when they use the machines incorrectly and then want to try fixing it themselves, instead of contacting the help desk. Anyways, thanks once again all. I really wish that we could have found the definite root of the problem with the 2550, but, sometimes some things just cannot be solved no matter how hard you try.

Have a great day all.... and can a mod mark this thread as solved and close it please? Thanks.
