Re: Must have Thumb Drive Utilities
To be honest, I haven't carried a USB stick with tools on it for for years. I simply just use stuff that is built into the Operating System of the customers network, or my laptop (which I haven't dug out of my ute now for 3 years).
Tools that I regulary user are:
- Telnet Client - Used for eliminating issues with print drivers by connecting directly into port 9100 on a printing device
- Ping - We all know what this is used for I hope
- NSLookup - Resolving DNS issues
- Internet Explorer - Web interface (because most machines that I work are based on IE and not other browsers)
- IIS - FTP built in to Windows environments for scanning to FTP
About the only thing I carry a USB stick for is firmware. I used to keep drivers and all that, but it is too hard to maintain an up to date library of drivers, so you are always better off downloading the latest driver while on site. That way you know you have installed the latest driver rather than assuming that the driver on your USB stick is up to date. Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.Comment
