    MAC scanning

    Heelo all,
I'm sure this has been addressed before but I'm unable to find any posts about it. I have a customer with a MAC, O/S version is 10.9. He wants to scan to folder. Are there any white papers/step by step instructions for a Ricoh MP C2050? I think FTP is easier but have never set up scan to FTP either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: MAC scanning

Currently only 10.8 or below is supported with SMB scanning (NIB firmware v8.33 and System/Copy firmware v1.20, and above). There is no news on any SMB support for 10.9 and above.

    Setup FTP on mac: http://www.macinstruct.com/node/152
Then setup the scan on the copier as you normally would.

You'll want to advise any Mac customers that all OS upgrades will cause issues like this. I've been lucky for the most part with getting some of my customers to keep their machines at a level their devices will support. Sadly, that's not always the case.

FTP is the way to go on Mac's. Some newer MFP devices now support the SMBX which is Apples new SMB protocol that was introduced in 10.7 from memory. But Apple will most likely screw things up again with future updates

Micorsoft screwed scan to SMB with both win7 and win 8. All MFP manufactors had to come up with firmware solutions to compensate.

The SMB 2.x protocol was introduced in Windows Server 2008 and in Windows Vista.
The SMB 3.0 protocol was introduced in Windows Server 2012 and in Windows 8.

Microsoft decided moving forward to default Win8/Server2012 to utilize SMB3.

              Moving forward

              Solid Decision

Konica Minolta: No issues that I am aware of with SMB3

Microsoft also told the industry that SMB 3 would be 100% reverse compatible with SMB2 devices.

It is hard to set up scanning on a Mac unless it is 10.6 or lower at least in my experience. I normally recommend to just scan to a shared folder on a different device or just scan to email.

Another workaround we do is to have the customer scan to the copier's document server. Then access and download the document through the WIM.
