    DLINK Green switches

    Hey guys,

Any body having any issues with these DLINK Green network switches?

The new sharp MX2640 series and the MX2615 series will not give a steady link light on the copier. It sits and blinks when plugged into a DLink green network switch. Ive tried turning auto negotiate off on the NIC and that made the light stay on steady but the customer was having issues with the copier dropping off the network. Almost 2 weeks ago i put the copier on their router instead of the switch and the link light stays on steady now and so far they have not called back.

Another tech had the same problem, copier dropping off the network at times, there was a physical switch to turn the DLINK Green crap off and that seemed to solve their problem.

If you're assigning a static IP address make sure you're not assigning it within the DHCP range. I've had this issue once before where an MFP was dropping off the network due to it having a static IP within the DHCP range.

If you must have it assigned within the DHCP range, then assing the MFP's MAC address to the IP, but get the customers I.T. to do this.

When we did the install we verified the copier was outside of the DHCP scope. I tested 2 copiers in my office, a MX2615 and a MX2640. They did the same thing. One was on DHCP and the other was set static and i know nothing shares that IP.

      Thanks for the reply

I've had another similar issue which in the end I just couldn't resolve. The MFP just kept on dropping off the network every 5 to 30 minutes. I did a cross over to the MFP and did a number of lengthy tests and there were no drop-outs. I tried reserving the IP, getting the customer to update the firmware and reset the switch but none of that helped. In the end I recommended they get a new switch and no issues since.

If you know how to use wireshark you could give that a go too, it may give you some additional info.

I haven't seen any of these DLink switches yet and hope I don't.

Try setting another machine at that location. Same cable, same jack, every thing the same except the machine. If it does the same thing they have a flaky network switch. I had a similar condition at a customer. They replaced a five year old switch and no more problems.
