How to Print on Canon IR5000/6000 over the Internet

Can anyone explain how to print on Canon IR5000/6000 over the internet. How to configure the DNS setting on the said machine? I try to sign up a free DNS in noip.com, but i don't know to use the free DNS service in setting up on IR5000/6000. I want to try this because i have 2 shops more than 100 meters away, both have internet connection. i only have one machine.

I am assuming that each shop has its own internet access. If the two internet router have fixed ip address from the isp, you could try setting up a VPN, virtual private network. Most routers will support this.

Another option is two setup a wireless link between the two shops. There are a number of wireless n devices that can be used. Usually outside directional antennae are required. Also direct line of sight is best. On it own, wireless n has three to six times the range as wireless g. With the proper outside antennae, distances of over a mile can be achieved.

One other option that Ricoh has is cloud printing.

From memory, NOIP requires some software installed on a computer and that software makes sure that your IP address (for you internet connection) is updated so that your DNS name knows where to send the traffic to.

The are many ways you can do this, but you will find that nearly all of them are unsecure which could lead to opening your network up for an attack. Things such as forwarding port 9100 on your router to the copier can cause this to happen as you are opening up your printer to be available to print anything from the internet.

Slimslob has given you the best idea which is a VPN from one of your shops to the other, essentially making one network instead of two separate networks. You will need a static IP as shop that the VPN is being connected to so that the VPN runs without any issues.

The other suggestion that Slimslob had was for a radio / wireless link between the two shops. This would save on the need for having two internet connections as both sites could use one singular internet connection as the wireless network would again create "1" network.

If it were me in this position and I could legally get it done, I would have a run of Fibre Optic Cable between the two shops and use that fibre link to create one singular network.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

thank you for the replies... i made a research and tried to setup the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) via IIS of Windows XP. I'm still working on it.. but i think the best is setting up VPN.

VPN or IPP is the best. If you go via IPP try to setup IPP over SSL and maybe enable user codes to prevent outsiders printing to your device via IPP (some who scans for open ports).
