Printing pictures from Vista photo gallery using User Codes from Ricoh MPC printers

    Hi Guys,

Had an interesting problem that I had been working on, I hope the info would help someone when they run across this issue.

This customer has a network that is mostly XP, however, he recently got 2 new Vista workstation. They have 3 Ricoh MPC MFPs that use user code for tracking printing and copying. Most of the applications print fine from the Vista PC. But when they print pictures from photo gallery, the mfp either acts like the print job did not have a user code (data light blinks once or twice then stops), or it would stall the printer and you would have to clear the print job from the server, then reboot the MFP. It would not matter which printer language you used.

The only way that I could get any of Ricohs on our demo floor to print under these conditions, was to load the RPCS driver and print directly from the Vista PC. I tried this out at the customer location and got it to print. But the customer, like all IT guy (control freaks), want the driver on the server. I told him that this was a temp work around unitl we figure out how to do what he wants.

I did not get a very good answer from Ricoh tech support on why this happens, or if they even know that the issue existed.

As soon as I figure out the problem, I'll let them know.

    Everyone have a good weekend.

Check out the Print Driver Customization Utility. This will allow you to customize the PCL driver to meet a lot of different conditions. Even in your case, that a RPCS out performs a PCL, the DCU might be your best hope.

Try it in your showroom first and if it works, then take it to your client. If you know all the client set up info, then I would suggest maybe even using the PCL Packing Tool. This would allow you to hand the IT staff a *.exe file will fix all their problems.

If this doesn't fix their problems... then you can tell them that Ricoh is actually a step ahead of MS on this front. What else could you say?

copyman20: what are the MFP model numbers and what version of the drivers are they using?

I have a feeling they are using an older Ricoh driver that has an issue where devmode (which is used for user codes) is not working and they may need to update the drivers.

However get me that info and I will check with the devices and drivers I have here for you.

          Hi Nathaniel,

Used an MPC2500, C4500, & C7500. All acted the same. I actually downloaded the lastest drvs for each of this models from ricohs site.

          Thanks

What was the server?? and did the server have the additional drivers for Vista loaded with the driver on the server? Haven'tran into this yet.
