    Ricoh (Lanier) SMB scanning

I was able to scan to each computer in the office except one. It was using W7 premium. All of the computers were using dhcp, very small business, nothing special for network. I was able to scan to this computer using it's current ip address, but not its computer name (host). The Lanier would always say network path not found. Being that I could scan to the ip, it doesn't appear to be a firewall setting. It seems that the Lanier could not resolve the hostname of the computer, dns on Lanier same as rest of computers. I have run into this before and still haven't figured it out yet, any ideas. BTW it was a lanier MP425. However, I have seen the same on current models also.
    I've proved mathematics wrong. 1 + 1 doesn't always equal 2.........

The older ricoh machines authentication ver is to old to work with W7 and W8. Don't know if there is firmware for your model.
    Whatever

try this on the win 7 home prem, pc ipconfig /flushdns, This clears the DNS database that is kept on the pc, sometimes it gets corrupted. win 7 home prem is a pain to setup for smb scanning with most brands of mfps. Also check for firmware update, as other mfp brands have issues with hostname/dns and fw fixes have been released.

forgot cmd needs to run as admin.

If that is the case use the PC ip to test.

The worst part of the whole issue is that you have a business, no matter how small, using the Home version of Windows 7 which makes adjusting some of the networking and security settings a lot more difficult, as well as not giving them room to grow since you can't add the machine to a domain, or any kind of directory service.

It sounds like whatever they're using for DNS, likely a consumer router judging from their OS, is holding onto its leases for too long, so that even when the IP's change on the individual computers the records it keeps for name resolution don't update right away. It might be easier to just set up a single machine with a static IP for them to scan to and just break it down into folders for each user or project. With a single point and static IP to scan to DNS can do its job without having to flush the local DNS cache on each machine every time they want to scan.

Make sure that the SMB workgroup setting on the MP425 matches the W7 homegroup/workgroup. If you are using a domain, the domain name setting must be correct and the first DNS must be the domain DNS. Netbios must be enabled on the W7 computer as that is what is used to lookup computer names.
