Re: Canon IR C5185 with H1 Fiery loses IP connection
Regardless of whether the IP Address stays static or not, see if you are able to use the host name of the device in the print driver instead of the IP Address, so no matter what the IP Address changes to, the machine can still be reached!
I had a Savin Wide format plotter where the IP Address did not work properly for printing, so finally I just let the IP Address be...DHCP/Static...doesn't matter!...the print driver looked at the hostname of the machine, which doesn't change and the port number, which also doesn't change!
I also work with installing Kyocera MFP's and during the installation with the driver install CD, there is an option to use the hostname for the connection...they come from the factory with DHCP enabled!
Good Luck!

Re: Canon IR C5185 with H1 Fiery loses IP connection
I know that this thread is pretty old, but just in case it's still a problem....
Are you shutting it down at night? If so, the Fiery is an old enough model that the BIOS battery it in may be very weak or dead, and the IP address gets forgotten. (I'm fairly sure it's maintained by the battery on the Fieries.)
Don't forget that there is no guarantee DHCP will give the same address every time.
If you're not in a position to crack the Fiery open and replace the battery, a reasonable alternative may be to register the Fiery's MAC address for a DHCP reservation. Or don't turn it off (of course that one goes out the proverbial window should the power ever go out.)Leave a comment:

Re: Canon IR C5185 with H1 Fiery loses IP connection
I had the same problem with mine, except I couldn't even keep mine connected for over a day.
I followed the thread here to uninstall and reinstall the Fiery and then you can assign a static IP address when you set it up. That is going to make it a lot easier to stay connected. Make sure to pick a valid IP address because it might take you 20 minutes to do this because you have to wait so long for the Fiery to come online after a reboot. You MUST reboot it to make the changes stick. If all else fails power cycle the whole rig again.
good luck!
cheers

Re: Canon IR C5185 with H1 Fiery loses IP connection
You may need someone that has basic networking knowledge. You normally want a static IP address that never changes. If may be that the fiery is set to pull an IP address dynamically from a dhcp server. If the IP changes then the printer driver or if you use command workstation doesn't know the correct IP address anymore. The dhcp server determines the lease time of that IP and after a period of time it will release then renew that IP address. Setting it to static it will never change unless there is just something wrong with the fiery itself.Leave a comment:

Re: Canon IR C5185 with H1 Fiery loses IP connection
The copier runs fine for a week or two then when I come in one morning and turn it on I cannot access it from my computer and have to change the IP address and then everything is fine for a week or two.
I am not sure why this continually happens as nothing on the rest of the network changes.
When I change the address I notice there is a choice for automatic IP, should I choose this option? Will that allow the copier to find an IP address so it can always connect?
If I choose this option do I have to re-install the software so it finds the copier? As it is now the software under printer properties is set to the same IP address as the copier.
This is such a pain to have to waste time with this IP issue.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Still, there is a chance this problem is due to when you turn the fiery off, something else is taking over its IP address. When the fiery looses its IP address, disconnect the fiery and then try pinging its address from a computer on the network. If you get a response from the ping then it might lead you to the offending device.Leave a comment:
