    Scan to Yosemite

I've set up a shared folder on the admins desktop, But the admin account has spaces in user name so I can't use those credentials for auth on the SMB share. So Im using the Guest account to scan the PDF to the folder. The scan works fine, the PDF arrives in the folder, but when I try to open the PDF it says I don't have permissions to open this file contact administrator even though im using the administrator account. Any ideas?

I can access the file if i login via the guest account, But while on as the admin(main) account it wont let me access to file. in get info Administrators are set to read & write.

The machine im using is a Xerox SC2020 (smallish MFP), sadly its limited scanning features means only email and SMB, no ftp support

Then it seem that you have 3 options.

        Change the folder permissions.
        Change the admin user name.
        Use scan to email.

        oops 4.
Find a server you can scan to.
        Whatever

Are you using the Administrator account or are you using an account that is an administrator, there is a difference when file access permissions are concerned. Check permissions for the folder. Try setting it to Full for Everyone.

It's a Unix file permissions issue: the Guest account is being seen as the owner of the file, so the OS is giving only that account read/write/execute permissions to the file.
Have you tried putting the user name in quotation marks in the address book like "Admin Account" and then trying to scan?

You may also want to let your customer know that best practise in user names is to always have them be a single word, just for reasons like this.

thx for the replies, Going back to the customers tomorrow will give the " " a try. Or try to convince the customer to change username. The account they use is probably not the "administrator" its just an account in the administrators group.

                Ok....simple fix.

On remote file sharing on a Mac OS X if the user name has spaces, do it like this:
Make scan folder for admin user and share with the following method!

                User Name: Jack Kerouac

User Name for file sharing: jackkerouac (...all lowercase and NO SPACES!)

Use the the correct password for that account!

I don't use the newer intel macs...I have an older G5 PowerPC, but the user login format should still remain the same!

Can confirm this on 10.10.2 . Did Install this week. Username with spaces. remove spaces / make all lower case. Worked a treat.
