    [Error Code] Canon imageprograf 6300

Hi guy's,may have bought a lemon...printer has a lit up lcd screen with nothing showing.
However after loading printer software I was able to read this error code :- 0196
Hopefully someone might tell me that it's 'just' the lcd/board gone
kaput? Upon powering up nothing seems to happen except the
lit screen and then a single beep. Then nothing. I do know that the software communicates with the printer that's all. And no there are no inks installed-having to sell my 1st born to medical science to afford them....
Any clues? Hints tips most appreciated.

Hi Teckat, thanks for the reply. Checked out the connections found
a loose one reseated. (I'll tag the connection later on) Hoped that
was it. Carried on and looked at the pcb boards. The wee ribbon cable socket looks the worse for wear so looking to replace that.
Wiggled it with power on not much happened except the screen went off, managed to get it back on-still no signs of life in the printer itself-nothing seems to initialise and the screen's still lit and blank.
Is this a main board issue then? The real expensive one?
I'll repair the lcd board 1st and take it from there....

How to download System Software for a Large Format Printer.

          Answer :

This knowledge base is a general guide on how to down load firmware that is needed to flash/upgrade system software on the Large format printers. There are two ways to upgrade the system software on the Large format printer.
One is using the FUT, Firmware Upgrade Tool and the other is using the L Printer Tool.
The FUT is designed so the customer can flash or upgrade the printer on there own. The printer must be in normal operating conditions to use the FUT. This article does not cover using the FUT to upgrade the printer.
The second method is using the L Printer Tool. This is what the technicians can use when the printer is having problems.
The requirements for the L Printer Tool are:
          1. The print driver must be installed on the PC or Laptop that is connected to the printer.
          2. The FUT file must be downloaded and unzipped on the PC or Laptop that is connected to the printer.
          3. The PC or Laptop needs to connect to the Printer, via the existing network configuration the customer is already using or a cross over Cat. 5 cable or a USB 2.0 cable.
Note: USB is simpler to use, (No TCP/IP configuration is needed).

To flash/upgrade system software on the Large format printers the FUT file for the model must be downloaded. This FUT program contains the firmware to flash the printer. The L Printer tool needs this firmware to flash the printer. Below is a link to the iPF 755 model firmware.
          http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/office/large_format_printers/imageprograf
          _ipf755/imageprograf_ipf755#DriversAndSoftware

In the image below the OS (Operating System) of the PC or laptop needs to be selected. Use the red drop down arrow key to display the various Operating systems to choose from.

After choosing the Operating System scroll down to the Firmware section of the page. In this area select the FUT file to download. In this example select the one for [Windows]. iPF750755-FUT-WIN-115.exe

The file download security warning screen will now appear. Select [Save] from this dialog box to download the file.

Next select where to save the file on the HDD. The best method would be to create a folder and save the file in the newly created folder. In this example the folder is named iPF755.

Select save and the file will start to download.

The file that was just downloaded is in a zipped format and needs to be unzipped or extracted so it can be used.
Double click on the zipped file and the Win Zip Self-Extractor will open as in the image below. Now select [OK].
Note: If the Win Zip Self Extractor does not open this file Win Zip may not be installed on your PC or laptop. Older versions of Win Zip can be obtained as a free download. Google Win zip, download it and install it on your PC or laptop.

After the file has been unzipped the Firmware update tool is ready to install and use or the firmware files are ready to be selected and used by the L Printer Tool.

When the L Printer tool is used the program needs to select the path to the [.jdl] file that is actually the firmware file.
In the image below the path to the [.jdl] file is shown.

                Re: Canon imageprograf 6300

                Hi Techat,
well I've followed all the firmware download procedure....still running into issues.
I've downloaded the Firmware Update tool :- Fut-Win-2400 (32) Unzipped and ran setup.
Let it source the latest firmware (1.25) Didn't expect it to update the printer due to it being in error and not in receive update mode.. But when you go to the data folder there is no .jdl file at all?
Nothing like the one showing in the data folder in the 'how to file' you uploaded for me.
So off I popped to Canon's support page and downloaded the latest update for Win XP 32. So good,so,so far away...?
This file downloads as this :- Wl46bmux_firmware0125_6300_6350.jdl,again not like the one in the how to file or the L
Printer Tool TP08 publication 'iPF755V0115.jdl' or anything like it appears anywhere....am I missing something/doing it wrong somehow?
Tried using the firmware as downloaded but the transfer button stays grayed out on the L Printer Tool, well it sort of flashes on and off if you will....so that was a bust.
I've never known an update be so infuriating to accomplish.....the programs are there, the update file is there.....and yet
a solid brick wall. Am I doing something daft? I thought I was quite intelligent until this.

I've even removed both programs via windows and there own uninstall programs and tried again, same result.
So removed them again and then went into regedit to make sure they were, indeed gone. Re-installed both (Update first, then ran it,let it search for the latest update, which again found as Ver 1.25,again no .jdl file)
Then installed L Printer Tool and went to search for the file....nada. I'm puzzled as the 'how to' file seem's simple!?

Oh,by the way that connection on the main board that was not connected properly, was J2512,all the rest were seated.

Anyhoo,I'm off to delete/uninstall everything again then re-download things and try again....been at this for a goodly while now......jings I need help.

                      Hi Techat,
so the jdl file is the correct one that I'm trying to use?
If so where/why won't it show in the data folder? As per the instructions or pictures.
I've taken the board out so all the connections will be reseated and I'll try again....
                      Once again,cheers for the help!
                      Regards Gus.

                          Hi Techat,
It's Win XP Service pack 3 and 32 (Need that for most of my flight dims!) I was going to try that the night about hidden files but I thought if they (Canon) Are supplying the update why on earth make them hidden? So I'll give it a go,boards back in resting my knees, bite to eat then we'll see....fingers crossed!
