Canon aftermarket copiers wiped with software destroyers

gentlemen,

We do a lot of after market/ off lease Canon imagerunners. I see more and more of the products coming in with disk wipe software that erased the whole drive. Example IR 3245i and been wiped by IBM Secure Data Disposal Scrub3.exe.
My question to you is does this totally make the drive unusable or have you been able to reload the firmware on these drives?

I have no experience of that product however a Google search reveals people are having problems recovering the partions erased by Scrub3.exe using fdisk and the windows install cd.

You could try putting the hard drive in a laptop and booting from an Ubuntu CD (cos its easy to use) and see if that can detect the whole drive and format it.

That kind of stupidity needs to stop! Protection was built in many years ago! Stop stop stop doing this to Canon drives! Initialize all data in the user side under additional settings on the control panel and your done. A five year old could do it.

If its a 3245 order a new hard drive....they come pre-formatted. Stick one in and install firmware. DO NOT FORMAT IT FIRST. If you do it will not work
