[Misc] Canon Imagepress C1 Gradation Noise

My C1 ImagePress makes a "growling" noise when it gets to adjusting the gradation in the warmup cycle. What parts are turning at that point that I can investigate to try to eliminate the noise? I like to keep ahead of potential problems. The C1 has been a most awesome machine and I hope to keep it running for many more years.

    Thank You.

Probably ITB unit or fixing unit.In service mode you can test the motors. One by one.

Thanks. I will check the fixing unit motors, as the noise is coming from that area.

Strange as it sounds, it really has been a good machine for me. Even with it's complexity, I have been able to resolve all service issues myself. (It helps to have a spare parts C1.) My customers just love the quality of the images. I do everything from B&W flyers to nice full color postcards and letterhead with it.

I started testing the motors using the COPIER>FUNCTION>PART-CHK in the service mode. I started with M34 on the fixing unit and all of the fixing motors checked out fine. I then checked the other motors starting with M37 (secondary transfer outside motor) and it was the culprit! Same growling noise. I can now zero in on exactly what is making the noise. Thank You!!!

          Good find!

PS: motor almost never making noise.Driven unit is culprit.

Re: Canon Imagepress C1 Gradation Noise

Well, I think there was an error in the Service Manual. I just could not find the cause of the noise when checking the secondary transfer unit when turning the parts that M37 turns. The noise still seemed to be coming from the fixing unit. So I opened the side and removed the cover of the fixing unit so I could activate M37 and see what was turning. Well, M38 was the motor that was actually activating! Tracked it down to the gear that goes between the fixing roller and the fixing belt drive system.
