    iR2010 on a network

    Hi friends,

Just started work at a small company with three printers. They gave me a pc (running XP Pro) connected to the company network (also XP Pro.). They acquired and connected the iR2010 printer while my pc was not being used.

The iR2010 drivers were never installed in my workstation, therefore I cannot find the iR2010 in the list of printers available on the network; there are other (6) printers and fax machines.
Subsequently my pc will connect and print to other printers in other rooms but not the iR2010 in the same room. The other pcs in the room have no problems printing on any printer, but I know those had the iR2010 drivers intalled on them.

There are 2 cds marked "network' something and "fax program" something.
I got administrator rights temporarily and inserted the network CD. No autoplay.

I opened the "network" cd contents looking for a setup file but could not find one in the cd's root directory. There were other directories with setup files but I did not want to be installing items I was unsure about on a company pc.

Anyone has any idea (or a pointer to a thread, or a url) on how to install the drivers on this XP Pro machine so it will find the printer in the network and print out of it using the cds available or otherwise? TIA

    Thanks

Did you try going via "Add printers" in Control panel and letting XP try to find the .inf file?
Failing that d/l the drivers from the Canon website.
It comes with an installer or you can do as I stated..."Add Printers" under XP control panel.

You can add a printer via the control panel by clicking on Printers and Others, after that you click on Printers and Faxes, search for a Add Printer button to start the Add printer Wizard. Once the wizard is started, click Next, and select "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer".
By now you will have several choices to find printers. You can let windows search them for you, or you can specify manually what you are looking for.

you can do as above but unless you have the canon drivers already on you will use the genric/window based drivers which do lose some features-you could install everything as a hp laserjet4 but hey thats down to you

            True

This is true, it is better to install the printer driver and then search for the printer via the wizard throught the network.

I'll look in the cds that came with the machine for an .inf file(drivers) and direct the wizard to that. Otherwise, I'll download the file you mentioned.

Thank you all for the help.
