Canon D1150 change paper size error

The customer received a fax that was larger than letter size. The machine got a flashing red light and wanted the paper change to legal.
The machine would not receive or send faxes in this condition.

Shouldn't the machine automatically feed another letter size sheet. I didn't clear the memory because I wasn't sure if 'initializing data' was the right thing.

The customer didn't have a legal tray so I inserted legal paper into the tray and set the paper size to legal, shut the machine off-inserted the tray and 10 sheets of legal paper feed out and the machine went into standby. I then reset it to letter.

Shouldn't machine automatically feed another letter size sheet if legal size is being faxed over?
If 'initialized data' in service mode would that have cleared the faxes in memory?

Re: Canon D1150 change paper size error

If the original paper size of a sent fax is larger than the paper supply of the receiving fax device?
The sent fax is Legal size but the receiving machine only has Letter paper installed. :~

    :-|
The size of the original is automatically detected when the document is scanned.
This means that a scanned Legal page is going to be 14 inches.

If the output paper in the receiving fax device is not equal to the scanned size, the image may either be reduced in size or divided into multiple pages.
This will be determined by the size of the original at the sender and the reduction capabilities of the receiver.

    Or****on some printers

When receiving a legal fax it has been noted that the image Runner will print the document by separating it into two letter size documents.
To receive this document on one single letter paper, change the receive reduction setting found in Additional Functions>Communication Settings>RX Settings>Receive Reduction.
The Receive Reduction ratio is set at 90% (default) and must be changed to 75%.
This change will reduce and print the received document on letter, which was originally transmitted on legaI.
    ________

Auto reduction not reducing legal size incoming (RX) faxes to letter size paper.

    :-D
In order for auto reduction to work properly, first set the Fixed Reduction Ratio to 75% (70% on some models or the lowest setting available).

Second, after setting the Fixed Ratio, go back into the same setting area and change the Fixed to Auto.
    Explanation:
Prior the machine would Auto Reduce incoming faxes but was limited default settings.

Default = Auto RX Reduction ON
    Fixed = 90%

The machine will still Auto Reduce yet now the setting allows that reduction to go as low as 70%.

The ratio needed to reduce Lgl to Ltr is 78%.
    ***********

Get 'Load A4 Paper' message when receiving faxes from certain clients (especially when the fax is sent from another country).

    Cause:
The problem is that the sending fax machine is sending a fax formatted as a different paper size (ex. A4). This is common when receiving faxes from other countries, as they use different paper sizes as standard sizes.

    Workaround :
The receiving fax machine can either be loaded with the correct paper size (ex. A4) or the receiving fax machine can compensate by reducing the fax to fit on the paper it has installed (ex. LTR).
Canon GP and imageRUNNER models are equiped with this setting. Based on the model you have, this setting will be accomplished in one of the following two ways. Please use the method that is appropriate for your machine.

You will know which method to use based on what you see on the screen after pressing the "Additional Functions" button.

    Method 1:
    1. Press Additional Functions.
    2. Press Custom Fax Settings.
    3. Select Printer Settings, and select RX reduction. RX Reduction must be set to On in order for the fax board to automatically reduce the incoming fax to fit on the loaded paper sizes (LTR). There is an optional settings button in the RX reduction window that will allow you to manually set how the fax is reduced or it can be set to AUTO.

    Method 2:
    1. Press Additional Functions.
    2. Press Communication Settings.
    3. Under Common Settings, select RX Settings.
    4. Select Receive Reduction and set it to On. Press OK. There are optional settings in the RX reduction window that will allow you to manually set how the fax is reduced or it can be set to AUTO.
