    iR-ADV Secure Print issue

    Hi guys

    Bit of an odd one...

I have a customer in the field who is using both department ID and the secure print feature on a iR-ADV C5240.

The customer is telling me that when the guy from department 1234 (for example) logs in, he can see all the secure print jobs in the queue (which is normal)...but he can delete jobs that belong to other users. He can only release his jobs with his appropriate secure print PIN.

Why does this happen? Is this normal? The guys at Canon sound confused when I ask them and they tell me that you should only be able to manipulate your own print jobs unless the same PIN number is being used multiple times (which it's not).

All department ID/PIN and Secure Print usernames/PIN numbers are unique in this scenario...

    Latest F/W on device.

Am I missing something here, or this normal?

Managed to recreate this on a iR-ADV C7065 in my showroom...happens on all drivers - UFRII, PCL and PS.

    Cheers

    Re: iR-ADV Secure Print issue

*scratches head* I'm a bit rusty on this side of things so please bare with me!

If I remember properly the secure print feature is just that - it allows the user to collect jobs only when they are at the machine, but as for deleating them it comes under the print que/job settings and maybe a seperate checkbox to hide or limit this feature to the administrator or user?!?

Like I say I'm rusty at this but might be an avenue to think about.

Addition: Just looking at the user guides it might be that the user is logged in with administrator rights.

    From the user manual:

If you are logged on as the SSO-H administrator, jobs sent by all users are displayed, and you can view the details of or cancel the jobs. However, secured documents and encrypted secured documents can only be printed by the user that sent them.

Department IDs have administrative rights while Department ID is enabled

      :-( (
When Department ID Management is enabled, any Department ID entered has full administrative capabilities.
Some customers prefer to ensure that a Department ID user does not have the capability to make changes in the Management Settings Menu.

      Solution : >

This will happen when there is no System Manager entered into the device. Since there is no System Manager, any Department ID will have full administrative capabilities. If it is necessary to ensure that a regular Department ID is restricted from making changes to the Management section of the Settings / Registration, it will be necessary to have a System Manager ID and Pin.

Once the System Manager has been entered, a Department ID user will be "Grayed Out" in the Management Settings Menu.

the machine has a system manager enabled. I checked the security options for department ID and it doesn't seem to give you much in the way of options for editing security. I can disable what functions the departments can access or if they can print colour. That's about it.
