    [Misc] IPF 8300

Hello fellow techs, I've encounter a troublesome problem.

    4027 - Last Tech

    Weeks after....

Day 1 - of my visit

My machine had a 2F25 error code. The HP Sensor works ( it change state in I/O mode ), but the carriage refuse to couple with the gear on the right hand side. After much troubleshooting with tech support. I've replaced the carriage unit and the linear scale.

Boot up, enter new print heads, it does it's job. After all of its replenish ink, nozzle check etc. The machine asked for paper ( glossy photo paper was loaded before )

Loaded and it started to calibrated.

After 10-15 mins... machine had an error code 4027.

So tomorrow I will replaced the flex cable and flash the machine ( I've asked if the flex cable can cause a 2F25; no, so I didn't replaced the flex cable right away. )

To my knowledge the flex cable doesn't have any breaks ( I checked in I/O mode, the 4th bit from the right ) If it changes state while moving the carriage manually, you have a break )

To make this short, I've replaced the purge unit, linear scale and the carriage unit.

I've order the main board just in case.

Hate that flex cable. :' -(

I had a feeling, I do hope its the flex cable when I replace it tomorrow. I didn't expect the cable to crap out during a calibration. Aside from that, I hope I don't have to put in that main board.

Cable could have a vent pin

What I'm thinking is replacing the flex cable and reset each connector on the main and carriage board. Flash the machine and see what happens.

Could the multisensor cause the issue ? I didn't replace that. I've asked several techs, they said it shouldn't cause your 4027 or 2F25.

detailed list of what happened so far. Hopefully we can solve this issue as fast as possible.

            Day 1- 2F25 ,

            Old carriage install

            * HP sensor works, it changes state in I\O mode.

            * Ran gap call and motor cog, failed

Reset the flex cable in the carriage.

            No success
            __________

A carriage unit and linear scale ( encoder ) was ordered,

            Day 2 -

Install the encoder, no change. 2F25 still exist.

            Install carriage unit

            With new print heads.

The only thing I used from the old carriage was the multi sensor.

With the new print head installed, it replenished ink and did nozzle check. Good so far, the machine asked for paper, I loaded paper and it proceed with calibrating.

While waiting for the cycle, it stopped all of a sudden, resulting in 4027.

            ____________

            Day 3 -

Flex cable and the main board.

            - installed the flex cable and new mylars, hoping to get a different error code. No, same error code. 4027. Once again I've reset the flex cable in the new carriage and main controller. No luck.

Today, unplug power cable from the wall, unplug all connectors and install the new main board

Boot the machine in service mode, to activate PCB mode. Selected cpu and wait for the prompt the shut down.

Reboot the machine, and watched from the right side if the carriage would couple with the gears.

            It did not.

**** Note, I checked the lift cam sensor just in case, in I/O mode, the 6 bit was a 0 ( 0= on )

I've reset the connectors in the carriage, main board, behind the purge, 4027 !!! -.- ....

Question, can I move the carriage freely when the machine is in an error state ( user mode ) ?

Can I move the carriage freely while in service mode ?

I know I shouldn't be able to move the carriage freely at home position. However since the gears are not coupling on the right side, does that mean the carriage isn't locked ?

            ________________

By the way, the tech before told me the purge was replaced. I'm starting to believe it may be the purge unit. Maybe it went bad...

            Not sure.

Question, when replacing the main board, do I need to store any settings and load those setting onto the new board. I checked the service manual, I didn't see any of that.

** After replacing main board, enter in PCB mode, follow the prompt, then shut down. ( Which I did )
