Don't forget to replace both harness wires

Service Manual suggests to replace the HDD. However, it is possible that the error might not clear even after a new HDD has been installed.
After replacing the HDD with a brand new unit, boot the machine into Service Mode.
The printer is designed to auto clear errors when entering Service Mode.
This step is often overlooked and the assumption would be that something else is the problem such as the Main Board since the HDD did not resolve the issue.
Also when the HDD or the combination of the Main Board, HDD harness and HDD are replaced together, boot the printer up in Service Mode and perform board replacement first, (CPU for Main PCB and MC for M/C Relay PCB). After this step is completed, turn OFF the printer and reboot into Service Mode again. Turn printer OFF once more and turn printer ON in User (Normal) Mode. This will ensure that the HDD errors are cleared.

    Note:
Never use a HDD that has been previously installed in another printer. Always use a brand new Canon issued service part HDD.
