It's probably uneven presure that's driving it off line--causing a year.

Even on new units inspect the rear screws,
that applies pressure between the fixing film and the pressure roller.

I have one doing that. They duplex 11X17 and I wonder if that could cause it. Measure the pressure screws and see if they are the same. Check the painted screws and see if both sides are even (the brackets that hold fuser in). Push on fuser as you tighten screws (to make sure it is even). Canon has a tech pub on it. I put in two canon films within weeks. I was planning on replacing fuser next but the last call was for toner build up on the upper guide rubbing off on the paper intermittently. I measured the screws and the pressure was ok but moved one of painted screws and so far it is ok. Has been an issue with this series copier but this is the only one I have doing it out of a dozen or so.

Here is the tech pub I used to fix mine (been almost 3 months now no tearing film). It shows how you have to get it even and I pushed on mine to make sure it was even.

              :-))

Betting on alignment, because unit does not drift in other printer.
