wide format technicians forum - Canon iPF820

    hey everywon

anyone know of a wide format printer technicians forum? i need some help with a Canon iPF820

if anyone here is familiar with these machines, maybe you can offer suggestions - the machine is not printing from one yellow block (see attachment) - new print head fitted and problem remains, ink supply checks OK, looking at replacing Head Relay PCB, then Carriage Relay PCB, then ribbon cable, then controller PCB

any pointers on either a suitable forum or technical advice on the problem would be very much appreciated

If you're a certified Canon tech, you can post something to "The Grid" on their support site

When a whole train (or half train) of a color is missing usually it is not the print head.

I would say flat cable or main board.

There is a series of measurements which can be done.

I have explained this phenomenon in this forum and I am too lazy to do it again, so you would have to search.

thank you both for your responses

the print head was replaced because it was producing terrible prints, though the old head wasn't printing that yellow block either - print head cleaning results in an 03800500-2F2F error as naturally the head management sensor didn't see any ink come out of that yellow

i did forum search and found something related, though i didn't see anything about making measurements, neither does the service manual nor the troubleshooting guide mention measurements

perhaps if you could remember a little more so i can refine my search? or inform me as to which manual would have the correct procedure listed?

any further assistance would be very much appreciated

          To cut it shortly:

The problem is either main board or flat cable.

If you change both - you have solved the issue.

The flat cable can be measured by flat cable checker Tool.

Main board can be checked by digital multimeter in resistance mode. If one of the transistors near the flat cable is showing a difference than you need to change the mainboard.

However I would start with removing the flat cables from mainboard and alcohool cleaning. Sometimes it helps,

Remove the head and clean the contacts on the carriage that the head makes contact with. Use alcohol. Upgrade the firmware. Go from there. I have had success cleaning the contacts. The head is new you say...don't touch its contacts then
