I had a 62XX series do that. I tried changing ADJ>VCONT>DE-OFST to a negative number like suggested. I ran several auto gradations and then put the setting back to where it was and it came back. Referb low volume machine that went out of my territory so I never knew if it held up. Scratched my head on that one. I think there is a sensor that looks at the drum that is easy to take out and clean. Transfer belt has known to cause problems. Make sure that circuit board on bottom has not fallen out. You can turn potential control on and off to check. You can use a test chart and crash the machine to see if it is dark on drum to troubleshoot transfer problems. Check developer to see if it has good brush or bad gears. I doubt software is an issue but always keep software up to date.

And they did not tell you until later, correct? Hope they got a big bill and know all toner is not the same!
