    [Error Code] trouble shooting low voltage power on canon IR C2550i

    Hi All,

    Second attempt on this post so apologies if it ends up double posting.

    I have an IR2550i which fails to warm up when the power is switched on. It halts, maybe a second or two after power is switched on with either a 227-001 or 227-004 error, depending on whether or not the reader "twitches" once on power up.
    I have disconnected , cleaned, and reconnected all the PCI cards and ram on the mainboard as I was originally getting random errors including a 747, but now only get the 227 errors.

    The one time I managed to get it to startup, after I cleaned all the connections on the main board, it had a false message about the front door being open, then the side door when they were both closed.

    How can I troubleshoot the low voltage power to see if it requires a new low voltage power supply?
    The symptoms sound exactly like the FM3-8179-010, technical bulletin ref F2-T01-N13-10061-01? for the 2020i series, but I think I have a different LVPS configuration/PCB.


    Any tips on diagnosing if it needs a new power supply?
    It seems, on the 2550i, that the LVPS is part of the Main power supply "module" bottom right in the back of the machine.

    I can't seem to track down a service manual for this machine, but I do have a 3380/2880 series service manual which, I think, is similar, however the PCB part numbers do not match whats in my machine...

      Replace power supply

      U probably have a poor 24v.
      Check the connections__remove>reseat.
      Check 24v

        tried reseating all connections with no luck.
        Replaced the power supply and all is working AOK.

            Seems like such a waste.
            The whole new power supply has a cage, and 2 PCBs full of components. It looks like a single big diode on the old board failed/overheated causing all the problems....but no time to troubleshoot component level repairs!

            Image quality is great and the machine is quite low mileage......now that I can turn it on!

              Think of a diode as a one-way street for electricity. When the diode is in forward bias, the diode allows traffic, or current, to flow from the anode, towards the cathode leg. In a reverse bias current is blocked so there is no flow of electricity through the circuit.
              When current is flowing through a diode, the voltage on the positive leg is higher than on the negative leg, this is called the diode's
              forward voltage drop. The severity of the voltage drop is a function of the semiconductor material that the diode is made from.
              When the voltage across the diode is positive, a lot of current can flow once the voltage becomes large enough. When the voltage across the diode is negative, virtually no current flows.

                More precisely, the component is a rectifier/SIP ul bridge. So like 3 diodes in a single package . I haven't confirmed it for sure, but it definitely looks smoked!

                component part is a D15XB60, 4 pin SIP.

                all academic now though as I have another power supply working well.
