    2 IRC3480i's code E0003-001 and -002

With in a week both of these machines came up with the same code just different riders.
An E00003 is defined as Low temperature of the fixing unit after standby.

-001---Detects the temperature detected by the sub thermistor is abnormally low (below 90 deg
    C) for 1 sec continuously while adjusting print temperature.

-001 fix---Check on connection of the sub thermistor/thermo
switch, Replace the fixing unit, Check on a break in the
heater, Replace the cover switch, Replace the main
power supply PCB, Replace the DC controller PCB
To recover from the error: In service mode
    COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR >ERR

-002---Detects the abnormally low temperature (open circuit) when turning ON the fixing heater

    -002fix---Replace the fixing heater.
Clear the error in service mode: COPIER >
    FUNCTION > CLEAR > ERR.

The fuser with the 001 code has a ripped belt. The belt on the other is fine. So why not use the good belt on the good heater
and fix one now and the other later when the part comes in.
Question: I ohmed out both the heater elements and the readings are the same on both. I expected to see the one with the 002
to have an open in one of the element legs. And they were both the same. About 27 to 30 ohms each leg and around 52
measuring from through both the white legs. That makes sense. What doesn't is why the one with the 002 rider element
does not have an open. I did reseat the connectors on site, but no joy there.

    What have I missed?

    Thanks

If you have replaced upper fuser roll assembly and still have the error the issue is probably at the door switch near the fuser plugs. If the plastic caps on the door break the door does not actuate switch properly. I have actually stuck a rubber shim inside the switch assembly to get it a more positive actuation. Take the cover off a you will see a gap between pieces inside. That is where I shim. It is actuated by the metal actuator at the top rear of the door. Common problem on this model..

      Canuck,
Thank you for your reply. I read it while on site with these machines.
First I installed the repaired fuser in the down machine and got the same result E00003.
I shimmed the switch also and that made no difference.
I then took that fuser with me to the next working machine and installed it.
E0003. Must be an open in there somewhere. I did ohm the thermistors on both
the units with the E0003 codes and they seemed to be ok. I will hold my finger on
the thermistor while measuring so I can see the resistance change and change back.
This has served me well in the past. The sensor in the middle I assume is the thermostat.
I ohmed both end of the black lead and it also gave me a good reading indicating that it
      was not open.

      So the mystery continues.
      Thanks again Canuck
