hi i have a machine that has e020-0491 and the copies were light and covered in dev (gritty feel to the paper) we have cleaned the lasers and patch sensors and also replaced black dev and drum. After replacing the black dev and doing the setup we are now getting e020-0440. i have put in a black dev from another machine for one copy just to check density of print and this is all good but copies do still have a slight dev feel on the paper.

I would replace the sensor harness that you plug into top front of dev. You say you have replaced dev already and your error deals with ATR sensor in dev that looks at cylinder. Your copies feel gritty from carrier on them, usually thru lack of toner. Your ATR sensor thinks dev density of black is good so it doesn't add toner. Look at Density for black in service mode.
