    iR1730i Drum Detection Error

I have a Canon iR1730 that will not detect the drum. A new drum, HVT power supply and DC controller have all been replaced. Any suggestions?

Check these part numbers with the ones you put in. This is from a canon tech pub.

    Problem :

"Insert The Drum" message is shown on the Display.

    Solution :

After checking the HVT Bias Contact and replacing the HVT it was determined that the HVT and Engine Controller needed to be swapped as a pair. After installing both an Engine Controller (FM4-7813-000) and HVT (FM4-7814-000) at the same time the "Insert Drum Message" went away.

This is another one.Was old drum put back in?

      Problem :

The insert drum message is displayed. Checked the primary contact on the drum, replaced the HVT, did an all clear and replaced the dc controller. No change.

      Solution :

Replaced the drum unit and dc controller at the same time. In this case, the dc controller was replaced with the original drum unit. The drum unit ended up taking out the new dc controller. It would be recommended to replace the drum first before the dc controller. Also, be cautious of testing the drum in another working iR1700 series. The bad drum can cause the insert drum message to appear on the once working iR1700 series.

I've had to reform the contacts for the HVT connections for this a couple times on these. Them little coat hanger wire contacts....Do a continuity check with your ohmmeter with drum out between primary contact at rear(spring) and primary contact on HVPS.

I'm fairly confident that we have eliminated the HVT, DC controller and drum as our issue. However, I've been trying to determine where the feedback signal originates to tell the controller that the drum is present. The documentation is very iffy at best. The only source that I see returning a signal back to the controller is the environmental sensor. I have been unable to locate that sensor. I've looked through the service manual and parts catalog and have been unable to locate that sensor. Not that it's the problem but it is in play. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Wth is this common? What a big waste of money. All this over a contact shorting
I have used Canon Imagerunner parts for sale. Most are floor model Color and / Advances Imagerunner with some 3025 3235 parts. Several intact machines being parted.

I've had this issue .. i replaced the drum, HVT and engine controller individually but didn't fix it. in the end i had to replace the HVT and engine controller at the same time to resolve the issue.

Most of the times it is just a bushing that is getting warned on the drive of the drum
You can get the part here https://3dboland.wixsite.com/3dboland/store
Its much cheaper than replacing a drum unit.

yip.i used a cable tie on the front drum shaft just to push drum against contact for this issue..think that's even cheaper then your $1.20
never used a bushing.think ill give that a go next time.

Yes, peter you can do that.Mine will save lots of time to get the correct diameter and I also put on the spacer an inlet for the drum and a grove for the body. This is version 3 to get it perfect.Personally, I think a cable tie will cause more damage to the machine if it gets worn.If your diameter on the busing isn't 100% you will get noise or more friction to the drum.
But here is nothing wrong with your idea we all have diffrent standards of doing our work'

You can use my Drum bushing much cheaper than above.
