    IRA-4025 Lead edge smudge

Hi I have this machine intermittantly smudging on the lead edge when making 15 prints 3 will have the smudge the rest will be perfect. I already tried replacing the Drum, Transfer roller, and cleaning the guide plates. the only improvement comes from cleaning the guide plate that sits just below the drum the one with black mylar on it when I clean it it prints fine for about 20 prints and then the problem starts happening again.
Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it? Attached is a picture of itIMG_20170131_130447.jpg
    Thanks

The fuser entry guide has star rollers that get caked up with toner. Machine is famous for it. Usually it is farther in for a "blur" "smudge". Take fuser out and check guide with the star rollers. Toner comes off easily to remove it.

Thanks Dan777 I tried what you said but it did not help the wheels were very clean. I think what i have is related to the transfer. I tried adjusting the transfer offset settings in service mode and the darkness of the smudge changes depending on the setting but still doesnt go away it keeps appearing intermittently.

Ive had a couple of earlier models smudge the edges and it was the dev unit, lumps on the roller cleaned and was better swapped and was all good.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already tried changing the developing unit. When I make white copies or copies with no image on center of the lead edge There is no smudge. It seems like there is static or something causing the toner to scatter in that one spot only. I have tried changing the metal static brush thats mounted under the transfer roller and no change.

I had one where the transfer guide was warped slightly. Straightened the guide and problem went away

Fusers cause issues. I've had fusers not come to temp...running cool but not error. Dcon clear fixed it. Or replace upper film/heater

Beaker020 you gave the solution to my problem. The black guide plate under the drum looked ok but I tried bending it in slightly in the center where the smudge was and the smudge got worse so I tried reforming it the opposite way and it solved the problem. Thanks everyone who offered suggestions..

Did your issue ever come back. I have the exact problem on an Adv4045, your sample pic looks just like mine! We have bent that guide plate with the mylar but problem still came back after 30 or so copies, have tried it several times, once even got it to pass 300 copies without the smudge, then it came back again. Did that fix your issue for good?

may I suggest starting your own thread.. reasons are thus:

                    1) Thread from 2017.. OP said it was completed by bend plate

                    2) ADV4025 vs your ADV4045

Hi repeat copiers reforming the plate did fix it for good it looked pretty straight but like I said bending it a little where the smudge was made it worse then bending I the other way solved the problem.

If there is no problem with other cassettes, it is a problem with feed rollers.

Finally figured mine out, some of the metal static eliminator teeth were crimped in the middle.
