    IR 5075 COnnection to Computer

    Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some help. Hopefully you can help me out / point me in the right direction. I'm sorry if my question is dumb... but I am stuck and need some assistance.

I recently got a used Canon ir5075. I am having difficulty connecting it to any of my computers.

I have tried connecting with a cat5 cable to my network... no luck finding it on the network

When there is no cable plugged into the ethernet port on the copier, I get the "Check Network Connection" warning. When I plug it into my network, this error goes away.

I have tried connecting directly to my Windows 7 computer (using a crossover cable that the previous owner included with the copier)... again could not find it

I tried connecting directly to my Windows 7 computer with a usb cable... still no luck. Windows does not even recognize that anything has been plugged in.

I checked under Additional Functions and confirmed that Use USB Hub is set to ON (I actually have tried On and OFF - restarting the copier each time).

I have tried various drivers from the Canon website... but my computers cannot find the copier.

I don't know where to find the ip address of the copier... I looked under Network Settings but do not see it there.

I know that the previous owner was using it as a printer, since there are still jobs in the printer log. (Majority of the copier use has been printing pdf & word docs it seems... based on the logs)

But I am stumped. It seems that I must be missing something or a setting somewhere.

I have a Canon ir C3220 set up on the same network... had no issues getting that one going. I had assumed it would be similar with this new machine.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
If there is more specific information that I should post, please let me know and I will do so ASAP.

Model IR5075_v2 it has the Universal Send Kit F-1 installed. As far as I know everything else is standard.

    Thanks!

It is strange the usb did not recognize the machine? You should be able to see the ip address under the network settings. You have to have the laptop set to the same network settings as in the copier to find or ping it (with proper cross over cable). If you know the ip address of the copier and can not ping it your network card is bad. I would look online and see if you can find a user manual. I used to have a lot of those machines but only see one or two a year now. I think under additional functions network settings would be where you set the ip address you want. I think the C3220 would be close enough for you to find the same settings. I don't think those machines used a fiery controller but if it had one at one time that setting could be your issue. Maybe someone here with a machine to look at could tell you exactly where to find out where to set your ip address. It is also possible your network could be bad on the machine but you need to find out where the ip address setting is. Use a UFR2 print driver. Set ip address to auto, reboot and find setting and take auto off.

      Hello Dan,

Thank you for your reply and for the link to the manual.
It is baffling me that it will not even be recognized through the usb connection.

When I go to Additional Functions -> System Settings -> Network Settings
      There are just 3 options:
      Change Settings/Display Connection Confirm [on/off]
      TCP/IP Settings
      E-mail / I-Fax

Under TCP/IP Settings are these options:
      Use PASV Mode for FTP
      Certificate Settings
      Proxy Settings

I am unable to find the ip address settings anywhere.

Re: IR 5075 COnnection to Computer

Ok, so I'm making some progress!
Thanks to SCREWTAPE's post at this link http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ca...ir-5055-a.html

The copier must have had a separate print controller in the past.
        I went into service mode: Copier > Options > Int-Face > IMG-CONT
        It was set to 4
I changed this setting to 0 and restarted the copier.
CNT-TYPE is set to 429 (does not appear that I am able to change this value)

After rebooting the copier, my menus have changed and I now have access to the IP Address settings (Under Network Settings)

Problem is, the copier is not being seen on the network.
I set the ipv4 address to: 192.168.1.20 subnet to 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 192.168.1.1 (matching my network settings). But it is not being seen.

I'm wondering if there is somewhere within service mode that I need to make another change?

Also, with the new control panel menus there are now 2 settings under the USB settings menu. After switching this on, my computer now recognizes the printer when it is attached through USB. Specifically Windows 7 pops up an "Installing Device..." window. It recognizes it as ir5075, but then is unable to find the driver. I then went in and manually updated the driver with drivers downloaded from Canon.

With the UFRII driver installed, I am able to send a print to the copier, but it does not complete. The display on the copier says "Receiving..." and the green status light blinks, but nothing ever prints.

I tried using the Driver insaller I downloaded from Canon, but it always fails to recognize that the USB is connected (even though Windows recognizes it immediately).

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Ideally, I would like to get it working on the network, but I would settle for having to plug in with a USB... just need to get priting to it.

        Thanks in advance!

If you set your laptop to same network settings and can't ping it your network is not working and some copiers have the network integrated into main board which is expensive. Good job on changing that setting. That is where you set it for a fiery controller. I am lucky and have 0 fiery controllers and only occasionally have to go to other techs territory so in five years here I lost knowledge of them. Usually when you print and it goes to copier and then disappears is a sign of a wrong print driver. The executable print driver runs a program that automatically finds the copier and opens the firewall setting. Problem with Canon (good and bad) is you may get a whole page of print drivers and knowing what to use is key. UFR2 should work and you should have the PCL or PS license to use those. If you have PCL we use PCL5. For USB I think you just let the copier go to the inf file and have it set up the usb port. 99.9% of ours are Ethernet so I am not sure about that. UFR2 is the Canon proprietary driver. You need to know if your computer is 32 or 64 bit. Most newer ones are 64 bit. Under the Copier>function>clear mode if you clear mmi it clears all the network settings in case someone was messing with the settings.
