Canon C5560 printing documents in Black & White mode that has color text on images

I am having the same problem on a C5535 and C5560. When they print documents ( email, word docs or PDFs) in Black and white mode, but the document has color text and/or images. It prints the text or images in a very light gray, instead of black. If I take the same document and print it to older Canon IR 250if or even a HP LaserJet printer it prints everything as black.

Have seen this problem years before on other manufacturer's machines, and it was easily fixed by clicking on a box in the printer driver to print greyscale text as black. I have tried the PS3 driver, PCL6 drivers and the UFRII driver and no consistant results. At a law firm that has the C5535 I temporarily address the issue by having them print there PDFs using the PS3 driver and printing the email and MS Word documents with the PCL 6 driver.

Tried contacting Canon but haven't received much help

I have found on PDF documents that are not printing correctly to check the box on the printer preferences that says 'print has image'. This is corrected a lot of problems for me in the past.
