    Ir1023if Scanner

Yes I am new so please do not hold that against me. I just installed the Canon IR1023if multifunction device and am having issues with the scanner.

Does this device scan to the network? I am getting conflicting reports on this.

I have been unable to scan to a networked computer even after installing the toolbox and making sure the scanner was listed in the MS scanner control panel.

I would appreciate any help with this.

The toolbox is only used for usb scanning
you need the driver for network scanning

thank you for the reply. i have looked but must have missed that driver. Can you provide the name of the drive or location. I looked on the CD and on the Canon website. I must be missing something and I appreciate your help.

the smb client on the 1023 must be turned on
there must be a shared folder on the network
        dns server needs an address
and the domain name must be inputed

Ok, thanks. I have done all of these except setup SMB on the device. Please allow me to ask if this can be done as a user under the additional functions command or as an administrator?

Ok, I found that SMB was already on but can not get the device to show a File Server to send to. When I hit send and then scroll through the items it is not listed. ANy help here would be greatly appreciated.

I have set this device up to scan to the computer as well and I have all the proper settings as stated above, and I am still unable to get the scan directly to the computer.

                SMB is on
                Drivers are loaded
File path: \\hostname\scans - set properly
                user name: set properly
                password: set properly
                Windows Firewall: is turned off
File properties: sharing is set to full control
Security: Permissions - set to full control

I cant think of anything else to make this machine scan to file????

I would appreciate any other input on this issue for the same device???

                thanks,

                Sean

Make sure you have the dns setup or you will need to supply the ip address instead of the hostname.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

DNS is setup correctly, I checked all network settings. Are you sure about inputting an ip address instead of "hostname"? I thought you can only do that with ftp server setup?

                          Same Problem

I am having the same problem with the ir1023if at my wife's office. I recently set the 1023 up for her (switching it from USB to Networked). It prints fine, but when she went to scan it's not working. I have messed with it a little, but am not sure what needs to be set up on the computer side and the printer side. There isn't much info on the net that I have been able to find. I have tried Canon's Network ScanGear utility, but it cannot find the scanner using the IP address. Can someone out there give me a quick walkthrough? Thanks a bunch,

                          Greg

Not the answer you are looking for, but look in the user manual that came with the system (on a CD). The iF model does not need scan gear - and scan gear does not work with any 1023/1025 model.

The iR1023iF uses Universal Send (the iR1023/1023N can only scan using USB).

What workes best for me (your milage may vary) is to configure the iR1023iF with a static address, make sure the subnet is same as the computer you want to scan to, enter the gateway, and enter DNSs. Power cycle. Go to a computer on the network and ping the static address - should respond. If not, the local firewall may need to be turned off ONLY UNTIL done.

Create a shared destination folder on the target system.

Once the ping goes, open your browser and use the static address as the URL - should open the RUI. Select Admin, go to the address book and config M1-M4 to the destination folder. Make sure you specify SMB NOT FTP.

Should work - but make sure you read the fine manual first.

Hey, thanks for the reply, I am just now getting back to my wife's office to work on this again. I have gotten into the RUI for the device, and I can only edit the M4 setting, the others are there, they are just unavailable to edit. They state
"This Button Has Been Registered For One Touch Speed Dialing."
So After setting up M4, I go to the scanner and push the scan button, then when I hit 04 (M4) it just beeps at me. I've tried rebooting it. Hitting the "Start" button also just beeps. Any help would be much appreciated.
