I have to replace the cutter motor on this machine. To replace the whole cutter unit you are supposed to drain the ink before you start, I only have to install a new motor on the cutter unit, is it still necessary to drain the ink first??? Thanks

In my opinion, there is no need to dry the ink. This procedure is probably just to keep you from dirty.
