    [Electrical] IRAdvC5250 - Main controller pcb2

    hi guys,

little bit confused with the service manual. I want to replace the main controller pcb2 with one from another machine, cost of new is 800 euro. The service manual states

Do Not transfer the following parts to another machine ( a machine of a different serial number)

The machine may not start up and may be unrecoverable in some cases

Main controller PCB 2 ( with the memory unremoved)

    Memory PCB.

Does the above mean you can not transfer the main controller pcb2 at all from another machine, or does it mean you can but you have to take the memory off first and put the memory in from the original machine? Anyone swapped a main controller pcb2 from another machine?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    tks

I would try it. Any small pcb on boards from the one in the machine should go on new board. Do a dc con back up and when you put in new board do a restore. The series that replaced this series my boss recommends to me not to do it. They don't send me to canon school so I am not exactly sure why except I would not try both controllers from another machine at same time.

Not sure about this model, but for the 20xx the instuctor told us NOT to swap parts that contain serialno's. It would render BOTH machines unusable, meaning you end up buying controllers twice...

So putting the board back in the donor doesn't seem to work...

Unless someone here (you trust ) says he's done it and it works, I would NOT bet 1600 Euro's on it...

Do not transfer the following parts from another machine (a machine of a different serial number).
The machine will not start up normally, and may not be able to be recovered.

        - Main Controller PCB 2 (with the Memory PCB installed)

Handling SRAM data of this machine.

With the normal service, the contents of SRAM of the Main Controller PCB 2 can be backed
up to HDD in service mode and restored after replacing the board.

If there is an HDD Encryption Board, the encryption key of the HDD Encryption Board
recorded on SRAM is lost when replacing the Main Controller PCB 2, and the contents of
            HDD cannot to be read.
Therefore, restoration cannot be done although backup is performed.
When replacing the Main Controller PCB 2, user data needs to be reentered in the same way
as when replacing the HDD with a new one.

            Main controller PCB 2
At replacement Replace the part from the old PCB to the new PCB.

SRAM of the Main Controller PCB 2 includes user data and MEAP related data.

If there are any files backed up from RUI by the user, restore them
            after recovery.
Explain the user that the re-installation of everything related to MEAP is necessary.
Reference: If Meapback.bin is saved using SST, it can be restored after replacing the Main
            Controller PCB 2.
This makes the re-installation of everything related to MEAP unnecessary.

Removing the Main Controller PCB 2

            ■ ■ Actions before Replacement
Data in SRAM on the Main Controller PCB 2 can be backed up to a USB memory device or
            an HDD from download mode.
            * However, if the HDD Encryption Board is installed, backup to an HDD is not possible. It is
therefore recommended to perform backup to an USB memory device.

Temporarily backing up SRAM data to a USB memory device
            (recommended)
USB memory device where the system software for this machine has been registered using
            the SST
Or, USB memory device formatted as FAT32 which has been checked that it can be
            recognized by the host machine.
In order to let the USB memory device recognized in service mode, create an empty folder on
the USB memory device and name the folder with the same name used when registering the
system software for this machine using the SST.

            CAUTION:

If mismatch between the box management information included in the SRAM data and box data on the HDD occurs, which is caused by starting the machine normally without
restoring SRAM data after replacing the Main Controller 2 PCB, the box management information is initialized.
As a result, box documents on the HDD are deleted.
Therefore, be sure to back up the box documents on remote UI.

            Actions after Replacement
            ● ● When SRAM data is temporarily backed up to an USB memory
            device.
            1) After replacing the PCB, start the machine by 2+8 startup.
            2) Connect the USB memory device to USB I/F (Host) of the machine.
When the download Menu (USB) appears, press the [8] key on the Control Panel.
            3) The download Menu 2nd (USB) will appear. Press the [2] key.
            4) Press the [0] key for confirmation.
            5) The Restore Menu (USB) will appear. Press the [2] key.
            6) Press the [0] key to confirm, and then the SRAM data is restored from the USB memory
            device.
            7) Press the [C] key to return to the download Menu (USB).
            8) Press the [Reset] key to shut down the host machine.

Here is a pdf I found previously on these forums for the ir adv c5045 which may help. Not sure if the same rules apply to the updated adv c52xx range.

                UPDATE.

Hi guys, well, this machine has broken my heart! I replaced the PSU with the relay board last week for the rebooting, no logic to how this machine decides to reboot, could be every 2/3 mins, or lasts a day. Anyway, got called back 2 days later for E075, refitted the belt and then the rebooting started again. So I replaced the Main pcb 1 and Main PCB 2, no problems with replacing the boards, thought it might have caused issues. Strange thing was though that the customers mail boxes were still on the machine but the pin codes didnt work, couldnt edit or erase the mail boxes, so had to do a Init all data. That solved the mail box issue. That was 2 days ago and havent heard back yet. So keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the help everyone
