Hi everyone. I really need help on this one. My 8300 stopped printing yellow. Saw it on a nozzle check print. It also was coding with numerous different codes. One time it ended in 2618. A couple of other times 2F42. It would tell me my right p.h. was bad yet the yellow wouldn't print and it made no mention of that. So, I decided to start from the beginning and replace both. I did that today. Fired up the printer and got the 2F42 again.Now the Photo Cyan won't print and the yellow has a very slight haze of Magenta going through the top line of the test print. I don't know how to explain this but when the yellow wouldn't print it was just the top box and now the top box of the photo cyan won't print. I noticed each color has two boxes to them. Anyway, I could really use some help as I am down and can't afford close to 2000.00 for someone to come fix it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I will be happy to answer any question you have to help me fix this.

is there a printhead cleaning mode in the menu from the control panel or from the driver? That's where I would start.

I haven't worked on this model but I don't know of ANY brand of inkjet printer that doesn't have a basic or advanced head cleaning option.

Most times you will find that in the INK or Maintenance Menu.

Hi Phil,
Yes I have done the Printhead A and B cleanings. I was on the phone with Canon but all they did was confirm I was using proper inks and checked to make sure I had the right firmware which I do. It's just so strange that it was saying my right p.h. was bad but I was missing the yellow which is the left one. Thank you for responding.

try replacing the 2 cap absorber on the purge unit

The book states:

If there is half a train or full train of a color missing: it is not the head

So I would:
1. Check the tubes visually to see that there is ink in all the tubes.
2. Visually check that purge is free of "obstacles"
3. Go to SM and print a nozzle check

If you see that a half or full color is totally missing :

It cannot be the purge unit or tube unit - because it is too "perfect"

Of course it is electrical issue...

And of course it is the most expensive part in the printer - the motherboard

And guess what :

To fix your problem : You need to replace mainboard + both printheads at the same time

Why ? Because of electrical contamination.

Thanks V-P. I just thought it was strange that my original problem was with yellow missing the top box of the test pattern. I change the ph's and get the yellow back but now the photo cyan is missing the top part of the test pattern. My original problem was the 2f42 code but I am starting not to believe the codes. One code tells me my right ph is bad but I had all the colors. The nozzle test printout is what showed me the yellow missing which is the right ph. That is why I changed both. Just wanted to have a fresh start.
