    Canon Imagerunner c3170i loud grinding

A new customer called with the mentioned copier today making a loud grinding noise, and the machine is asking to replace the black toner. The customer said that the issue first started when he put a new black toner in, so naturally I tried another one without any luck.

The toners are able to rotate one time, then comes to a stop. The transfer belt continues to rotate for about one second after that, then stops, and the loud grinding begins.

I took a good look at all of the gears and didn't see any broken teeth, or anything out of the ordinary like something stuck.

This is my first experience with this model, so I'm hoping there is a Canon guy here more familiar with this machine. Even a link to a service manual would be a big help, I haven't been able to find one.

try a new black dev, quite easy to replace, you can actually wangle it out from the front/side, usually with these the black dev seizes. Also there is a little brown/yellowish gear that wears, cant remember the part number or name as these machines are so old now, think it could be the dev drive gear, thats obtainable from the rear of the machine behind controller boards, id go with the dev assy first

The fixing unit makes a grinding noise when the gear wears really bad.
