1.Open the front door.
2.Remove the 1 screw from the black itb pressure lever and turn the lever upwards.
3.Remove the drum unit(2 screws).
4.Wipe the drum patch sensor, using your index finger and NOT a cloth.
The drum patch sensor sits in a white plastic housing and points down onto the drum surface.
5.Replace the drum and you should be good to go.
Of course...the other reason for that aprticular code is that the drum has reached 100% of it's life.
In service mode:
COPIER>MISC for the drum life reading.
If it's above 90% order a new drum.
Fit the new drum using the above steps and then in service mode:
COPIER>FUNCTION>CLEAR>DRM LIFE
Your first problem is that you have a 3100. But the 020-0081 code has been an issue, it may be the patch sensor or the drum but there have been a lot of updates to the 3100 and a few of them deal with the 020 codes. there are software updates to address this as well as some part updates. I would strongly recommend an authorized dealer to come out and check it if the patch sensor cleaning doesn't fix it especially if you notice a black line form on the drum. Thats a charger timing issue and it is staying on when it shouldn't and burning the drum (there is a software update for that.) There is also a service mode setting to change the sensor sensitivity. good luck
Is the glass half full or half empty? I say neither. The glass is obviously full, full of potential. The potential to hold more water or the potential to quench a thirst. Life is all about how you see it.
